MANILA - Lufthansa Technik Philippines broke ground Thursday on a massive new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Clark International Airport, a major investment aimed at cementing the country's status as a premier regional aviation hub.
The 157,000-square-meter site, representing a "three-digit-million-dollar" investment, is slated to begin operations in 2028. It is expected to generate approximately 1,200 highly skilled jobs within the Clark AeroDistrict.
This marks the second Philippine hub for the joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and MacroAsia Corporation, complementing its long-established base in the capital. The expansion will significantly boost widebody maintenance capacity, adding Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft to a servicing portfolio that already includes A330s, A380s, and Boeing 777s.
"This investment is a strong vote of confidence in Clark, in Filipino talent, and in the long-term growth of our country's aviation industry. Together, we are transforming Clark into a major aviation hub—not only for the Philippines, but for the wider Asia-Pacific region," said Josephine Gotianun Yap, chairperson of the LIPAD Consortium, which manages the airport.
The new center will also feature a dedicated paint shop and specialized workshops for non-destructive testing.
LIPAD President Noel Manankil noted the facility joins other global logistics giants already operating in the economic zone.
"Lufthansa Technik Philippines is an important addition to the Clark AeroDistrict. Together with global industry leaders such as FedEx Express and UPS, it strengthens the ecosystem taking shape around Clark International Airport and reinforces Clark's growing role as a preferred destination for aviation, logistics, and globally competitive industries," he said.
