But because the program's love language is no-filter 'kulitan,' we, viewers, have also gotten familiar with the people working behind the cameras, like the writers, who Vice Ganda loves to 'roast' for added entertainment.
From playful exposés to on-the-spot call-outs here are some of Meme Vice's unscripted funny moments with the ones writing the script on "It's Showtime."
First on the list is a recent writers' fail that Vice Ganda turned into comedy instead of letting it stress her out. Vice and the hosts were interviewing a ‘Laro Laro Pick’ player who selflessly chose to care for a friend’s child. But in the middle of the emotional conversation, Vice got confused by the writer’s sentence on the ‘idiot board’ which read, “Sa kanila natutulog ang bahay.” The story made perfect sense—but that sentence absolutely did not.
Vice then approached the writer responsible and jestingly ‘roasted’ him on-air, saying, "Paano mo ako matutulungan sa ganitong fine-feed mo sa akin? Isa kang malaking palaisipan. Nagho-host ako, pinipilit kong gawin 'yung trabaho ko pero lumipad 'yung isip ko rito." She then exaggeratedly tore the paper while the writer they called Carlo could only say a sheepish, "Pasensya na po."
A similar incident also happened when one of the writers mistakenly fed Vice Ganda information that the ‘Laro Laro Pick’ player they were interviewing has seven children, but the 'nanay' herself mentioned she has six. So, Vice stormed toward the group of writers and told them, "Kaya kami napapahamak lagi dito kasi 'yung mga sinu-supply mo sa aming impormasyon mali-mali." The writer then suddenly ran off and threw away the paper to get rid of the evidence, prompting Vice to react, "Yung mga pruweba itinatago n'yo para hindi kayo maglaglagan."
During the opening of an 'EXpecially For You' episode, Vice playfully got 'triggered' after noticing that the script being fed to her did not seem to match the story of the 'EXpecial' guest at all. After trying to make sense of the spiels for a few seconds, Meme gave up and asked, "Siya ba talaga ‘yung guest natin o iba 'yung spiels na binasa ko?"
The same thing went down on-air as the writers accidentally gave the hosts incorrect information about another 'EXpecial' guest, such as the name and hometown. Meme Vice was so ready to get into 'bardagulan' mode as she grilled the writer known as Sunburn, calling him out, "Sunburn! Wala kang naisulat nang tama!"
You know Vice is really close with the "It's Showtime" staff whenever she senses what they're going through just by their quality of work. In one episode of 'Showtime Sexy Babe' pageant, Vice was amused when she read question a candidate picked during the Q&A round, which asked, "I-a-accept mo ba ang friend request ng ex ng kasalukuyang karelasyon mo?" Tickled by the idea, Vice suspected that the writer who came up with it probably had some unresolved 'hugot' behind the scenes. Laughing at the situation, she asked, "Ano na naman kayang pinagdadaanan ng writer natin?"
Maybe that’s the secret to the show's longevity—even 'mistakes' turn into laugh trips, and the people working off-cam are treated like friends you can tease and joke with!
