What Lies Beneath” presents one of its undoubtedly talented and admired cast members in the February 20 episode of Kapamilya Chat, with Race Matias showing his dedicated heart in the “Huhulihin o Papakawalan” challenge.

The Kapamilya actor is offered various scenarios involving projects or roles he might consider in the entertainment industry. He would respond with “huhulihin” if he wants to take on the opportunity, or “papakawalan” if he’ll let it go for a while to focus on other aspects of his acting career.

Right on with a highlight for many up-and-coming actors, Race expresses that taking on the role of a leading man with his preferred on-screen partner would depend on the story or script. Although, he emphasizes that he’s not too keen on the romance genre and would lean more toward heart-wrenching and reflective narratives.

On returning to his directorial roots—but in the form of full-length films and teleseryes—Race gets honest, disclosing that he might let it go at this stage of his life. He elaborates on the meticulous preparation required, such as planning camera directions, script, production design, and more, and ultimately says that he would like to focus on the fun of embodying characters for now.

In the future? Yeah. If I’m fortunate enough, [maybe in] 20 years,” he adds.

In the discussion of kontrabida roles, he grows enthusiastic at the thought and immediately responds that it’s exactly what he’s been looking for. This marks another “huhulihin” verdict for the actor, as he is evidently invested in portraying the realistic and bittersweet nuances in villains that make viewers want to root for them unexpectedly.

The best antagonists are not necessarily characters that you disagree with… [Parang] kay Edong, gets mo kung bakit siya ganyan,” he explains.

As a multi-talented artist, Race also has a heart for dancing and was part of the award-winning dance crew Legit Status during his collegiate days. When asked about having another “ASAP” production number, he confidently conveys a “huhulihin” response but stresses that it would depend on the quality of the song he would be dancing to.

He also reveals his dream partners or dance team: fellow Kapamilya dancers he has shared the dance floor with before, including AC Bonifacio, Gela Atayde, Ken San Jose, Joao Constancia, and his co-star in “What Lies Beneath,” Jameson Blake.

When taking part in indie films is brought up, Race also happily accepts the suggestion. However, when it comes to theater, he responds with a “papakawalan.” He explains that the esteemed theater profession operates on a different level, being a one-take performance, and cites memorization as his current weakness.

“At some point, gusto kong habulin,” he expresses, not totally closing the possibility in the far future.

What role will Race Matias’ character of Marco play in searching for the truth? Find out in “What Lies Beneath,” airing weeknights on Kapamilya Channel sa ALLTV, A2Z, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), and iWant.
