A decade since her last appearance on “Your Face Sounds Familiar” as one of the celebrity performers in Season 1, Karla Estrada makes a surprise grand comeback on the show for the ninth round of the fourth season—not only as a guest celebrity performer, but also as a guest judge, as she fills in for absent judges Ogie Alcasid and Sharon Cuneta.
The ‘Queen Mother’ kicks off the January 24 episode with a poignant performance of “Always Remember Us This Way”, as she transforms into the ‘Mother Monster’ herself, Lady Gaga. Hosts Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario enthusiastically welcome Karla back on the show by poking fun at her look, as they compare her to popular Filipina vlogger Toni Fowler and to a fortuneteller.
Asked how she feels about her comeback, Karla conveys how she “super” misses going through different transformations every week, which she used to do every week for almost three months 10 years ago. did for nearly three months when she competed 10 years ago. She recalls how challenging the experience was, especially for those in the inaugural season, since not only the celebrity performers had to study their respective icons, but the entire production team had to learn and work on to the format, too.
Since she was used to being given legendary music icons, Karla admits that it's actually quite tough for her to impersonate Lady Gaga since she is a contemporary artist. She then playfully gets back at Vhong and Jhong for teasing her by quizzing them on why they are the current season’s hosts. As an alumna of the show, she is also asked to share advice for the Season 4 celebrity performers.
Although she’s a guest celebrity performer and judge for this round, Karla still receives feedback from resident jurors Gary Valenciano and Klarisse de Guzman. “Mr. Pure Energy” fondly reminisces about the early days of the show, recalling how they once wondered how long Your Face Sounds Familiar would last. He also notes that he had never heard Karla sing in such a way before, emphasizing how remarkable her performance was.
Season 3 grand champion Klarisse, meanwhile, imparted how she followed the first season, so she’s glad to see her back on stage impersonating an icon. She praises her vocal performance and humorously comments on her piano-playing skills and overall look, which she jokingly says reminded her of Karla’s beloved son, Daniel Padilla.
