From his first gender-switch transformation last round, Jarlo Base faced another huge pressure in the January 17 episode of "Your Face Sounds Familiar" as he was tasked by the ‘iconizer’ to portray Gary Valenciano, one of the show’s resident jurors.
According to Jarlo, he was really nervous and pressured as he didn’t want Mr. Pure Energy to think he wasn’t doing his best. That’s why he prepared well, starting off by taking advice from mentor Klarisse De Guzman for the vocals and Nyoy Volante for the movements.
Jarlo sang “Ililigtas Ka Niya” for this round, and although Gary wasn’t able to watch catch it live, juror Sharon Cuneta was certain he would love Jarlo's number once he sees it. "I'm sure matutuwa si Kuya Gary," she said. "Kitang-kita namin na 'Gary' ang ginagawa mo."
"Ang sarap mo panoorin,” commented Nyoy, who also sat as one of the jurors. He praised Jarlo’s stage command, which he described as “very Gary,” and the way he enjoyed performing.
According to Ogie Alcasid, “Ililigtas Ka Niya” is profoundly meaningful to Gary, having been written at a time when he was grappling with serious health challenges. Aside from that, the track also became iconic after being adapted by Coco Martin as one of the theme songs in the action-drama series "FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano." Ogie honestly pointed out that Jarlo faltered on some notes, which is rare in Gary’s case, yet the sincerity and effort were still commendable.
Jarlo also received a special birthday greeting from his "Your Face Sounds Familiar family."
