Imagine Donny Pangilinan and Kyle Echarri, side by side—no longer the boys next door charming us with sweet smiles and cute glances, but leading men about to blow us away with danger and thrill in their first-ever action-drama team-up.
The two Kapamilya heartthrobs, who we last saw on primetime via “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “Pamilya Sagrado,” respectively, are stepping into a new arena with “Roja,” the upcoming ABS-CBN series that promises adrenaline and a whole lot of intrigue.
At the story conference held on September 1, the powerhouse ensemble gathered in a venue styled like a tropical shoreline escape, with the cast members in breezy resort wear. If this setup is any hint at the series’ direction, then fans can only wonder how much of the plot is tied to the sand and sea. Adding fuel to early theories, a short teaser has already shown a glimpse of a luxurious seaside destination called La Playa Roja, which netizens now suspect will serve as the setting for the story.
"This is my first time doing this type of show," shared Donny, to which Kyle added, "I'm just very excited to work with everyone here."
During the story conference, the cast got to hold their scripts and throw lines for the very first time, giving everyone a thrilling preview of the chemistry and intensity that will soon unfold on primetime.
The room was buzzing with an ensemble of acclaimed veterans and breakout newcomers. Joining Donny and Kyle in the cast are Lorna Tolentino, Janice De Belen, Joel Torre, and Raymond Bagatsing, with Maymay Entrata also marking her much-awaited return to acting.
Completing the ensemble are rising young stars Kai Montinola, AC Bonifacio, Harvey Bautista, Iñigo Jose, and Emilio Daez, along with child actress Zia Grace, who is set to impress once again following her stint in "Saving Grace: The Untold Story."
Also part of the powerhouse lineup are Nikki Valdez, Cris Villanueva, Sandy Andolong, Robert Seña, Rans Rifol, Maika Rivera, Lou Yanong, Marc Abaya, Bernard Palanca, Raven Molina, and Gello Marquez.
The story conference also introduced the creative geniuses at the helm—directors Law Fajardo and Raymund Ocampo—together with the entire production team. ABS-CBN’s Chief Operating Officer Cory Vidanes also graced the event.
With a lineup this stacked, "Roja" is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Kapamilya dramas to hit primetime.
