'Pag may nami-miss, napapa-reminisce.
On the eve of her birthday, Mia (Anne Curtis) fund herself longing for Patrick (Joshua Garcia), and the ache of missing him drew her into a swirl of childhood memories in Episode 44 of "It's Okay to Not Be Okay."
Who would have thought that Mia would end up spending her “semi-birthday salubong” with her rival Gemma (Kaori Oinuma), who got drunk during their impromptu drinking session after being sent by Patrick to the mansion to retrieve his and Matmat (Carlo Aquino)'s belongings.
Gemma eventually passed out from drinking, but not before finally doing what she had long wanted—to take her little act of revenge by slapping Mia. Unlike their previous heated catfight, however, this encounter turned out more playful, as if the two were little kids bickering. And somehow, this scene revealed the possibility that they could actually become friends.
Vincent (Enchong Dee) rushed to the mansion to fetch the unconscious Gemma, which led Mia to point out his too-obvious feelings, which he didn't deny, and which triggered Mia’s childish side, as she dared him to choose between her and Gemma. Instead of taking the bait, Vincent calmly explained, almost in the tone of an adult speaking to a child, that liking someone comes in many different colors. “Nasa iisang spectrum pero iba’t ibang shades,” he said, likening it to the many kinds of pink. Mia found his words cheesy. Because for her, everything is simply black.
It finally dawned on Vincent that Mia was only acting that way because she was missing Patrick. Left alone in the mansion, Mia admitted to herself that she's indeed longing for him. And just like that, her thoughts slipped into the past.
In a series of flashbacks, young Mia (Ysabella Suarez) saved young Patrick (Nathan Bulalacao) from drowning in the river, and he never strayed far from her side from then on. He followed her around like a shadow—waiting at the school gates, walking with her in the park, standing by her on the bridge. Even in the pouring rain, he was there and his red umbrella to keep her dry. And in those memories, the young Patrick was always smiling, the kind that feels almost impossible to find in the Patrick she knows today.
Their friendship once bloomed with happy colors, until one day, Patrick approached Mia, holding a bunch of flowers he had lovingly gathered. But the joy in his eyes turned to fear as he saw her rip the wings from a butterfly. The flowers fell as he fled in horror from the sight of many more broken butterflies at her feet.
But even that moment was not enough to stop him from wanting to get near her. One night, under the watchful moon, Patrick visited her again, holding white and yellow blossoms. Mia’s heart was ready to meet him halfway but her mom Ingrid (Empress Schuck) intervened and forced her to drive him away. Mia obeyed and crushed Patrick’s flowers underfoot. He walked away without knowing that behind him, she was in tears too.
Mia has been feeling the same in the present. Even without tears, her heart wept with the weight of missing Patrick. One by one, the memories played out, from their reunion that seemed written in the stars, Patrick helping him cut her hair, that spontaneous Montanessa trip, and of course, their unforgettable first kiss.
The next morning, Patrick bumped into Gemma, who was completely clueless about the hilarious mess she had gotten herself into the night before, so he jogged her memory. Apparently, as soon as she and Vincent got back to the compound, she went on a full-blown rant at Patrick while Vincent tried to calm her down. And just when Vincent thought he was helping, she rewarded him with a 'vomit facial.'
If her birthday eve was already full of twists, what surprise could be waiting for Mia on the big day itself?
