As Pinoys, we love getting into fun conversations about the most random everyday things, whether it's about pop culture or just anything relatable and interesting. That’s the exact vibe of "It’s Showtime’s" newest segment, “MASASAGOT MO BA?” In this game, two teams go head-to-head answering street-smart trivia questions. But aside from exercising the players and viewers' mental muscles, the segment is also a goldmine for spontaneous laugh-out-loud moments, the funniest of which Kapamilya Update rounded up in this video.
Kicking off the game were the "It’s Showtime" hosts themselves as the first set of players. And because the trivia questions were meant to be as 'masa' as possible, Anne Curtis' 'sosyal' charm became the target of 'asaran.' When asked, "Anong daliri ang ginagamit na panukat ng tubig kapag nagsasaing," she replied, “middle finger” and translated it to “hinlalaki,” earning perky reactions from the audience and her fellow hosts.
Milk tea lovers probably got their brains worked out too with a question about the Filipino translation of winter melon. Rain Celmar of “PBB Gen 11” answered “malamig na melon,” reasoning with full conviction that “winter” clearly means cold or 'malamig' in Filipino. Her unexpected logic left the entire studio in stitches, while Vice Ganda admired how she defended her answer like a true Gen Z "na laging may pinaglalaban."
Vice threw the same question to Esnyr Ranollo, in character as his online alter ego, Precious. The ex-"PBB Collab" housemate said that it should still be "winter melon" but pronounced with an extra-thick Pinoy accent.
Of course, we expected nonstop laughter when comedians Rufa Mae Quinto, Empoy Marquez, and Alex Calleja teamed up as players. True enough, punchlines were already brewing even before the game started, when Vhong Navarro pointed out how Rufa Mae looked more interested in chatting with 'jeepney barker' Ogie Alcasid than actually playing. Rufa Mae explained that she was standing not to chat, but because the seat was too hard for comfort.
In another episode, the hosts noted that Ogie looked extra enthusiastic playing 'jeepney barker' for the team of former Viva Hot Babes members Maui Taylor, Zara Lopez, and Jaycee Parker. Vice Ganda jokingly revealed just how much of a fan Ogie used to be, claiming he even had a full collection of Viva Hot Babes DVDs, leaving Ogie flustered as he struggled to explain himself while the other hosts laughed along.
Meanwhile, the “Papansin Squad” of drag queens Angel, Khianna, and Zymba Ding turned the segment into a mini comedy show. There was a particular moment when Angel drew laughter as she bantered with Vice Ganda about her neighbors in Manila, who she described as being very “positive.”
The segment's jeepney terminal setup felt like the opening scene of a jeepney love story starring Bianca De Vera and Will Ashley, who became the center of teasing. It all started when Kim Chiu noticed how unusually quiet Will seemed, and from there, Michael Sager stepped in like a wingman finding just the right strategies to get Will and Bianca squeezed adorably close together.
In another round of the game, Anton Diva, Beki Velo, and Tammy Brown didn’t seem too concerned about winning as they were more than happy just being seated across their charming opponents, “PBB Collab” boys Brent Manalo, Ralph de Leon, and River Joseph. The comedians joked about skipping the competition altogether and just getting the boys’ bank account details so they could deposit the prize money win or lose.
Meanwhile, the Torro family led by Toni Fowler proved they know exactly how to keep things 'masa' and at the same time keep up with 'sosyal' moments too. Toni even shared a few tips on how to behave in a fine dining restaurant, referencing her viral video where she schooled her sister on proper fine dining etiquette.
And in one episode, the banter between Meme Vice and player Pepe Herrera was a total laugh trip, especially when Vice joked about not being able to look Pepe in the eye and wishing he had a “Pepe” in his life.
Laugh and flex your Pinoy street smarts in "MASASAGOT MO BA?" on “It's Showtime,” airing Mondays to Saturdays, 12nn on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, GMA 7 and iWant!
