Being betrayed by her husband is arguably one of the most painful and terrible things that can ever happen to a wife, especially if she has made a lot of sacrifices and devoted herself to taking good care of the family. However, what if, after his unforeseen passing, she must not only clean up the mess that he has left but also take care of his child from another woman?
Well, this is exactly what has been happening to Lolita Trinidad, the character played by Lotlot de Leon in the ABS-CBN Studios primetime series “Sins of the Father,” who had no choice but to let Arissa (Francine Diaz), the lovechild of his late husband Mike (John Arcilla) with his mistress Ellen (Aubrey Miles), live with them.
This was after her son, Samuel (Gerald Anderson), decided to take her in after seeing her in a couple of viral videos online being mobbed by people who recognized her as the daughter of the “scammer.” Lolita was initially mad at him for bringing Arissa to their house, because she reminded her of the pain that Mike caused her, but she eventually agreed for her to stay with them since Samuel had already made up his mind with regard to adopting her.
Aside from the tension caused by the terrifying and mind-boggling situation they’re in, made extra intense by the people who are after the money that Mike allegedly had scammed from them, we also felt the growing tension between Arissa and Lolita as they had to navigate everyday living with each other. However, as time passes, it seems that the two women have already adjusted to their setup, as we can sense the concern, respect, and understanding they have for one another.
As we look forward to seeing them completely get along, let us revisit the scenes from “Sins of the Father” that attest to the growing bond between Lolita and Arissa in this episode of Kapamilya Toplist.
With how liberated Arissa is since she was raised by her mom in the United States, not to mention that she’s still young at her age, Lolita had a hard time disciplining her, as they tend to always end up arguing. For instance, Lolita tried to stop her from going out because of how dangerous it could be outside. But Arissa proved herself to be unbridled as she insisted on going in her pursuit of finding a job. As Lolita asked her if she couldn’t be reprimanded, Arissa clapped back at her by saying, “Nakikitira lang ako rito. I’m not your daughter.”
But in spite of her rudeness, Lolita still showed concern towards Arissa by feeding her decent and delicious food, as well as not letting her go out again since there are still angry victims of Mike who continue to haunt them. However, Lolita’s agitation was instantly replaced with sympathy when Arissa broke to her the news that she could no longer go back to the US due to a lack of financial means.
That night, Lolita accosted her again for not paying respect to her upon entering their house. But instead of heeding what she said, Arissa went straight to her room and wept, which Lolita was able to hear and got her worried.
The following day, Arissa seemed to feel better already as she greeted everyone with a “good morning” and apologized to Lolita for how she had behaved the night before. Instead of giving her another lecture, Lolita handed Arissa the bag containing the food that she had prepared for her since she knew that she would not be able to join them for breakfast. Arissa accepted it and showed her appreciation by saying “thank you” to Lolita.
She may be perceived as maarte, but Arissa can actually beat up a man, just like what she did when an intruder attacked Lolita inside their abode. Aside from coming to her rescue, Arissa also treated the wound and bruises that Lolita sustained from being assaulted by the unidentified trespasser. Besides, she promised not to tell Samuel about what happened, as Lolita didn’t want him to get worried further.
As Ellen berated Arissa for living with the legitimate family of her dad, which happened after she spotted Lolita behind her daughter while they were talking via video call, Lolita chimed in to reproach her upon hearing her snide remark about their family. Lolita furiously told her that they had never intended Arissa to get involved in this mess, but she inevitably became part of it since she is her father’s daughter. That conversation indeed provoked Lolita as she was reminded anew that it was Ellen who caused their marital and family woes.
Not long after, Lolita finally went out of her room following her scorching confrontation with Ellen over the phone. She told Arissa that she didn’t like how her mother talked to her, to which Arissa tearfully responded by expressing how apologetic and remorseful she was for losing her nephew, King (Clave Sun), under her watch.
When Arissa decided to move out of their house after what happened to King, Lolita paid her a visit at the coffee shop where she has been working as a barista. Their confrontation was both intense and emotional, as Lolita conveyed her worry to Arissa, who decided not to come home yet, to spare them from the consequences of her actions. She told her not to be anxious about her anymore, since she had been used to being alone ever since she was just a little girl.
And lastly, since she couldn’t convince her to go back to their house, Lolita decided to surprise Arissa by bringing food to her while she was busy at the cafe. Knowing that Arissa is likely eating canned goods ever since leaving their home, Lolita made an effort to prepare a decent meal for her.
