We know them as the loyal comrades and friends of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” lead character Hesus Nazareno “Tanggol” Montenegro being played by Kapamilya Primetime King Coco Martin, who unconditionally and tirelessly help him in defeating enemies and in saving other people in need.
But in the July 26 episode of the well-loved ABS-CBN Studios game show “Rainbow Rumble,” Ryan Martin, Renz Joshua "Baby Giant" Baña, Mark Anthony "Big Mak" Andaya, Sugar Ray "Mammoth" Estroso, and Jay Gonzaga took a break from the action and drama wherein they were able to display their wit—proving that they’re not just good at doing stunts, holding weapons, and throwing punches but also at responding to the random questions of host Luis Manzano and bantering with one another.
In the end, Jay emerged as the winner in the “Rally to the Top” elimination round and had the chance to play in the “Rainbow Reveal” jackpot round. He may have failed to bag the whopping P1 million prize, yet he was able to take home a total of P97,000.
Despite their failure to reach the jackpot round, Mammoth, Ryan, Baby Giant, and Big Mak were still all smiles as they genuinely enjoyed their experience playing the game and were able to fulfill their main purpose of providing happiness to the viewers.
“Okay lang kasi gano’n naman talaga sa mga games, may mananalo, may matatalo. Pero ang importante rito, nanalo ‘yong mga Kapamilya nating nanonood kasi nabigyan natin sila ng isang magandang episode ng ‘Rainbow Rumble,’” Big Mak said, who took home P2,000.
Despite being the only one who wasn’t able to make it to the rally, Baby Giant was still thankful that he got to participate in the game and even left a memorable mark.
While Ryan confidently related that he didn’t find any difficulty when asked which part of the game they’d found the most challenging, Mammoth imparted that it would be the English questions for him since he admitted having a tough time comprehending them. On the other hand, Big Mak and Baby Giant both admitted that their biggest struggle was swiping the sensor.
Regarding their takeaways from the game, Mammoth shared that he learned new things through the questions and answers, as well as expressed his desire to go back to the show and play again with the other “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” cast. In relation to this, Big Mak and Baby Giant related that they were reminded of the value of listening and studying well because we’ll never know when we can apply the basic knowledge and unpopular facts that we may pick up along the way. Their game, meanwhile, made Ryan realize the joy of having friends.
Episode winner, Jay, imparted that the game reminded him of the value of sportsmanship and reviewing various facts and trivia. But more than winning, his most important takeaway is the happy memories that he was able to create and share with his co-stars.
When asked what preparations he did for the game, Jay shared that he actually did nothing but simply enjoyed the process of the game since he played alongside his brothers from “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.” He exactly didn’t review but only refreshed his knowledge and awareness of some facts and trivia that he believed one must know or be familiar with. After all, the questions of Luis were more of “trick questions,” so players were only required to listen very carefully.
And lastly, with regard to the moment he enjoyed the most during the game, Jay recounted, “’Yong nagkukuhaan kami ng spot doon sa colors kasi parang doon ‘yong fun side ng ‘Rainbow Rumble’ kasi nate-test ‘yong friendship, nagtatawanan kayo, and nabibigyan ng tsansa ‘yong mga nasa likod na sumagot ng tanong.”
