Asia’s King of Talk, Boy Abunda, appeared in the July 1 episode of "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition," taking on the mission of helping viewers get to know the Big 4 duos better through his trademark fiery questioning.
Inside the confession room, Tito Boy, as he’s fondly called, shared with Big Brother how excited he is to visit the “PBB” house again and lead conversations that would uncover the real personalities of each Big Four duo. "This is the best thing Kuya as an interviewer, not knowing what's gonna happen is not just exciting but when I do conversations with people I'm not very familiar with, para akong nasa isang safe space. I like the exploration, I like the uncertainty. Tapos makakatulong pa ako sa taumbayan na mas makilatis, mas makilala ang Big 4 duos. I am a blank canvass. I'm going to ask questions and let's see what happens," he told Big Brother.
The living room was transformed into a talk-show-style setup where each duo sat together in their own spot. Tito Boy started with his famous “Fast Talk,” which the housemates actually looked forward to, with River Joseph joking that he's always wanted to answerr Tito Boy’s signature playful questions like “happiness or chocolates?”
But the interrogation wasn't as easy as choosing between happiness and chocolates. This version of "Fast Talk" features a series of sharp, thought-provoking questions that forced each duo to choose between their fellow Big 4 duos for each scenario.
They also faced negative perceptions and opinions from the outside world. The CharEs tandem of Charlie Fleming and Esnyr had to stand up for each other when confronted with criticisms aimed at them individually. Tito Boy first addressed Charlie, saying, “Some say that you are too immature at pabebe. May mga na-disappoint din sa ilang mga kilos at mga nabitawan mong salita dito sa loob ng bahay considering na ikaw pa naman ang mahilig mag-share ng Bible verses.”
Esnyr was given 30 seconds to defend Charlie and explained that they joined a reality show, not a contest about maturity, “Nung pumasok kami dito talaga gusto naming ipakita kung ano talaga ‘yung kami. At I believe na pumasok kami dito sa house para mag-grow at ‘yun po ‘yung opportunity na nabigay kay Charlie." Esnyr admitted his duo partner had made mistakes but emphasized how much she had grown and how she treated everyone with respect, adding, "Charlie brought me to God also.”
Later, it was Charlie’s turn to defend Esnyr after Tito Boy pointed out, “Ikaw daw ay playing safe at walang empathy sa iyong mga kasama. Tahimik lang kapag nalalagay sa alanganin ang mga kaibigan.” Charlie explained Esnyr’s silence as a sign of her effort to understand every side of a situation before taking a stand. “When she’s quiet po because of other things happening around the house, I do believe it’s because she wants to know every single side of the story. ‘Cause you can’t really defend a person if you really don’t know the whole story.”
Tito Boy also confronted CharEs with an outside perception that they’re playing the “paawa” card to gain sympathy and public votes, asking, “CharEs, paawa nga ba ang duo n’yo para makakuha ng simpatiya at manalo?”
Esnyr clarified that what others call “paawa” is actually their lived reality, "Siguro po Tito Boy, sa paawa na sinasabi nila is kami po ay taga-probinsiya, kami po yung ‘di comfortable dito. For them it’s paawa, but for us it’s reality. That is why andito po kami, to show everyone na this is reality and this is not just a card for us to pull.”
Charlie reinforced Esnyr’s point, emphasizing they are simply being true to their journey, "We really are representing who we are and what we came from. We know that we are not comfortable in our lives, and yes taga-probinsiya kami, breadwinners kami, but it’s also to raise a flag that even if taga-probinsiya ka you can have a chance here in Manila.”
The duos were given the chance to throw questions at the other duos as well. BreKa (Brent Manalo and Mika Salamanca) was challenged by Will Ashley, who asked, "Naramdaman namin ang pagiging competitive ninyo, bakit nawala ito at ano naman ang nakapag-balik ng apoy sa inyo?”
Brent admitted he struggled to show his competitiveness outwardly, as he was also constantly battling himself, especially during times he felt he was falling behind. “‘Di ko lang siguro naiparamdam ‘yung competitiveness but I was always in competition with myself. More so nung mga panahon na lagi akong nasa mababang ranggo, nasa least desirable.”
On the other hand, Mika confessed that she actually felt like letting go of her fighting spirit at times because of their bond with their fellow housemates. "It's easy for me to let down my competitiveness, dahil napamahal na ako sainyo at nakita ko rin kung paano kayo lumaban. It was easy for me to not fight as much." But in the end, it was that same friendship that reignited their drive, "Bumalik ‘yon dahil din naman sa inyo, pinaramdam n’yo sa akin na deserve namin ‘yung spot namin and dapat namin ipaglaban ito.”
AZ Martinez and River Joseph a.k.a. AzVer were put on the hot seat when Ralph de Leon of the RaWi duo asked why it took them so long to start fighting for a Big Four slot, prompting River to open up about how his perspective shifted over time inside the house, saying that the whole journey and people who support him made him understand why he must fight for them, too, “I realized that throughout the learnings I had in this house, from Kuya, the tasks, the housemates and being saved from being nominated so many times, I realized that there’s so many people fighting for me outside, now it’s time for me to fight for them.”
AZ then shared her own realization, “I’ve always wanted to be part of the Big Four, but I didn’t let it get in my head kasi I really enjoyed so much of everyone’s company… I realized na I wasn’t fighting as much as I wanted to, nakukulangan ako sa opportunity that I had to fight. So this time, I wanted to show that I am fighting and to prove myself more to people.”
The episode also featured RaWi responding to Esnyr about whether they felt they deserved to win the first Big Four slot via the Duo Challengers' Choice instead of CharEs. Will answered honestly, saying he was ready to do his best regardless of the outcome, although he, of course, wanted him and Ralph to be the first duo to earn a BIg 4 slot. “Naging honest ako about it na nag-expect talaga kami sa first round. At the same time I told you, na pinag-pray ko rin na kung hindi man, ‘yung second rank sana, ‘yon ang gagawin namin ang best namin.”
Ralph followed up by acknowledging CharEs’ strengths and why they won overwhelming support from their fellow housemates. “We feel that everyone in this house has their own strengths, and with that particular Tapatan, CharEs showed amazing qualities that the housemates really saw and that made you have the landslide votes. So in that aspect, we didn’t really feel like we deserved it more than you," he told Esnyr.
As the Big Night draws closer, fans now have deeper insight into what drives their favorite duos, who they’ve become through the journey, and what kind of Big Winners they hope to be.
