Our favorite Kapamilya game show—“Rainbow Rumble”—finally made its comeback last weekend! And for its opening salvo, five prominent LGBTQIA+ achievers served as the contestants, namely, “It’s Showtime” host and Phenomenal Box-Office Superstar Vice Ganda, drag artist Marina Summers, host and newscaster Jervi Wrightson, content creator and social media personality Sassa Gurl, and award-winning actress and stand-up comic Iyah Mina.
The battle among the contestants, except for Iyah, who wasn’t able to move from the starting position, was so intense, but it was Marina who made it to the top in the end and had the chance to play in the jackpot round, where she bagged a total of P85,000 in cash prizes.
Even though they lost the game, Jervi, Sassa, and Iyah still went home happy not just with the cash prizes they’d receive but with the fun and memorable experience they got to enjoy together.
Jervi, who took home P20,000, said that since there would only be one winner, she was already happy whoever would win their race, even though it wouldn’t be her.
“I will be happy if it will be Sassa, si Meme, si Marina, or si Ate Iyah. Kahit sino sa amin ang manalo, I will be very happy. It’s the experience actually that counts kasi bihira kaming mag-bonding lahat na magkakaibigan, so happy kami na ginawa namin siya sa ‘Rainbow Rumble’ at binigyan kami ng opportunity to be together and have fun,” she conveyed.
Sassa, who won P15,000, described her “Rainbow Rumble” experience as “happy” and “sobrang pasabog” since she enjoyed it so much. Although she knew to herself that she was not good with game shows, she still tried her best to answer the questions.
She also explained her hilarious “Jessy Mendiola” response to the question about the actress who portrayed the characters “Dyesebel,” “Darna,” and “Kampanerang Kuba” on film, in which the answer should be “Vilma Santos,” the beloved mother of host Luis Manzano.
Iyah, who was given a consolation prize and new memories that she would take with her, imparted that she was happy since she got to share this experience with four LGBTQIA+ icons at present, and that’s the most important thing for her.
When asked which part of the game was the most difficult for them, Jervi mentioned that it was swiping the sensor on the floor since they were all trying their luck to get ahead of others in taking their turns. So, even though they knew the answer but failed to swipe first, the chance would not be given to them.
Meanwhile, Sassa jested that she was hearing the questions since she was wearing then a pair of huge earrings that covered both of her ears. Nonetheless, she reiterated that she enjoyed playing the game. Iyah also joked that the entire game had been difficult for her since she just stood there without being able to answer at least once, yet she had fun.
“Rainbow Rumble” may be a game show, but who said that the players couldn’t have takeaways from it, right?
Jervi gave a serious and sensible response, which was, “I think it’s important to have fun. It’s not really all about the game eh lahat naman kami gustong manalo. But it’s actually the journey. It’s the experience of playing. ‘Yong kailangang ma-enjoy mo talaga at i-savor mo ang moment na naglalaro ka.”
Still reeling from her “Jessy Mendiola” retort, Sassa realized the value of watching TV or news to stay updated about almost everything under the sun.
And lastly, even though she used her “Atras Power” to Jervi on her attempt to stop her from her continuous progress to the top of the pyramid, it was “suportahan at walang laglagan” for Iyah. According to her, she just did it for fun, and it was a competition after all.
