Three years after his last appearance in a Kapamilya teleserye, Gerald Anderson is back in action as he headlines ABS-CBN Studios’ upcoming crime-thriller drama “Sins of the Father,” which is set to premiere on June 23, Monday.
But before we get to see him take on another exciting role, let’s go on a trip down memory lane as we revisit his astounding growth as an actor in the almost two decades that he has been in the entertainment scene via this special feature.
Those who are able to follow his career journey right from the very beginning surely know that, just like many of the celebrities that we admire at present, he’s also a product of a reality show – the highly successful “Pinoy Big Brother,” to be specific. He was among the alumni of the “PBB Teen Edition 1” launched in 2006, in which he was dubbed “Ang Amboy Hottie ng General Santos City” and was eventually proclaimed the 3rd Big Placer.
He immediately received a slew of acting projects as soon as he stepped out of Bahay ni Kuya and back to the outside world, which included drama anthologies “Love Spell” and “Your Song,” as well as weekly sitcoms “Aalog-alog” and “Gokada Go!”
It was in 2007 when he and former ex-housemate-turned-longtime on-and-off-screen partner Kim Chiu snagged their teleserye debut via “Sana Maulit Muli,” where they played star-crossed lovers Travis and Jasmin. They went on to top-bill three more seryes together, namely “My Girl” (2008), “Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Cinema Collection: Maligno” (2008), “Tayong Dalawa” (2009), and the star-studded “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” (2010).
Gerald also portrayed the titular characters in the “Tiagong Akyat” narrative of the “Agimat: Ang Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla” anthology in 2009, as well as in the “Buhawi Jack” story of “Wansapanataym.”
As his loveteam era eventually came to an end after he and Kim parted ways, he began to get primed for more complex and challenging roles that allowed him to showcase his versatility and range as an actor. He was commended for his portrayal of the titular character with special needs stricken with Angelman Syndrome in the 2011 series “Budoy.”
In 2013, Gerald was cast as Miguel Dizon, a man seeking justice for himself, in the drama series “Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin.” The following year, he captivated us with his portrayal of Fredo Montilla, the love interest of “Dyesebel,” played by Anne Curtis, in the 2014 TV incarnation of the Filipino graphic novel of the same title by Mars Ravelo. His performances in the inspirational series “Give Love on Christmas: Gift of Life” (2014) and “Nathaniel” also delighted viewers.
Fans of the KimErald loveteam, as his well-loved tandem with Kim Chiu is called, absolutely rejoiced when they worked with one another again in 2017, several years after their breakup. It started in the “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode aptly titled “Reunited,” wherein they portrayed lovers Bernard and Cze, and was followed by the daytime sports-oriented drama series “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin,” wherein we followed the life and love journeys of their characters Gabriel and Bianca.
As he’s able to already cement his reputation as a bankable seasoned actor, Gerald proved that he could lead a troop of Kapamilya gentlemen in the military drama “A Soldier’s Heart” in 2020. He portrayed the main protagonist, Pfc. Alexander “Alex” Marasigan, which required him and his co-stars to go through a short course under the Philippine Army for them to be able to fully immerse themselves into their characters.
In that same year, he, along with his co-stars Yam Concepcion and JM de Guzman, made our primetime viewing figuratively sweltering hot through their enthralling performances in the sexy drama series “Init Sa Magdamag.” Gerald indeed captivated viewers with his depiction of the charming doctor to the barrio, Christopher “Tupe” Salcedo.
In 2022, Gerald once again starred in another sexy drama series, “A Family Affair,” wherein he charmed us as Paco Estrella.
And this 2025, we are about to see him in a new light as he is set to portray Samuel Trinidad, a man ensnared in the dark world of scamming because of his father, in the forthcoming series “Sins of the Father.” He will be joined by John Arcilla, Shaina Magdayao, Jessie Mendiola, JC De Vera, Francine Diaz, and Seth Fedelin, among others.
