Bela Padilla loves to connect with her fans on social media, from replies in the comment section to spontaneous Q&A sessions on Instagram. It felt like another version of that in Kapamilya Chat's "Drink It Challenge" where she had to pick a number with a corresponding question, and if she didn’t feel like answering, the only way out was to choose one of the mystery drinks in front of her.
Bela had a bit of a hard time with the first item asking her to share something about her private life, as she wasn’t sure what else there was to say since she’s always been pretty open about her life. So she turned to the live viewers and asked what they really wanted to know, and they ended up choosing a question about who the last person she stalked on social media was. Bela said it was JC Santos. She had to check out what his feed looked like since they were about to post a teaser for their upcoming movie "100 Awit Para Kay Stella." She went on to share that she often scrolls through her besties Kim Chiu and Angelica Panganiban’s accounts as well just to stay updated, especially when life gets busy and they haven’t talked in a bit.
And yes, she’s as updated on social media drama as the rest of us. Bela shared she was completely hooked on the whole breakup issue of influencer Meiko Montefalco, so much so that she fell asleep at 4 a.m. from binge-watching, joking that at this point, she’d love to see Meiko’s life made into a movie because it’s that interesting.
The next question was way easier; if she had to choose between acting and business, she said it would always be showbiz. "Ito 'yung inaral ko buong buhay ko, eh. Ito 'yung pinagtuunan ko talaga ng pansin," she said, adding that choosing business would mean going back to zero and learning everything from scratch again, which she’s not exactly rushing to do anytime soon.
Asked about her pet peeve when it comes to co-workers, Bela quickly pointed out one thing that really bothers her—dirty fingernails, especially in scenes where physical touch is required.
When asked about the most challenging role she’s ever done, Bela named her top two. Second would be her “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode Anting-Anting, where she played a character with schizophrenia. But taking the top spot was “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” where she taped from Monday to Sunday for an entire year.
She also didn’t back down from the question about the worst comment she’s ever read about herself online. "Laging kino-comment sa akin na banlag ako. And I am," she said with no trace of insecurity, because to her, it’s part of what makes her face unique. She’s even had directors tell her how much they love her eyes because they’re expressive enough to carry a scene even before she delivers a line. So instead of letting the negativity get to her, Bela chooses to embrace her eyes as her superpower as an actress. "I don't see it as something ugly. I see it as my trademark. Kumbaga kung si Ms. Nora Aunor may nunal, ako, itong mata ko."
Bela, no doubt, slayed the challenge! After all, honesty, a little humor, and knowing your worth will always taste better than any mystery drink, right?
