As the happenings in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” continue to get more intense and exhilarating, one of the events that we've been really looking forward to witnessing was the highly anticipated moment when Ramon (Christopher de Leon) finally discovered the deception of David (McCoy de Leon), thanks to the confirmation of Marites (Cherry Pie Picache).
Now that Ramon is absolutely livid and vehemently eager to find David after he was able to escape from the Montenegro mansion during the climactic revelation sequence, avid viewers of the top-rating primetime series surely can’t contain their excitement to see if Ramon will really kill David for making a fool out of him despite the plea of his beloved Marites not to harm his son.
But prior to bursting with rage, Ramon’s heart for David used to be filled with hope and affection, for he really assumed that he was his long-lost son and his dream of having a complete family would finally come true. Let us revisit those scenes that showed his facet as a devoted and disciplinarian father to “fake Tanggol” in this edition of Kapamilya Toplist!
He may be described as shrewd, but Ramon was still outsmarted by his late adopted sister Olga (Irma Adlawan), for she was able to make him believe that the young man she presented to him—David—is the estranged son he has been looking for. Even though he initially had doubts back then and refused to believe that David is indeed his sole heir, Hesus Nazareno Montenegro, he still fell for their lair of deception and allowed them to fool him.
Despite his instincts telling him that David was a fraud, Ramon was influenced by his father, Don Julio (Tommy Abuel), to believe the results of the DNA test handed to him by Olga. Thus, they didn’t just accept him to their mansion but also gave him luxurious gifts, showed him some of the assets they own that he can use for personal and business reasons, and even introduced him to their business partners as the successor of their family.
Ramon demonstrated how much he truly cared for him like a real father by making sure that his “son” was safe from greater danger after David got fatally shot during their syndicate’s shootout with the police. He even harassed the attending physician who refused to treat him at home since David already lost a lot of blood. Besides, he also didn’t forget to thank him for his good deed and reminded him to put himself first—just like most dads do.
Even though David doesn’t have any background or experience in business, especially compared to the one their family has, Ramon wanted him to learn the ropes and spread his wings all by himself. Don Julio might have opposed the idea of letting David lead one of their operations, but Ramon firmly believed that his son could do it.
He may be ruthless and sometimes reckless, but Ramon still knows how and when to apologize, such as when he said “sorry” to David for not being able to spend time with him anymore after getting married to Mokang (Lovi Poe) and putting his full focus on her until her untimely demise. He also knows how to express gratitude, such as when he thanked David anew for his sacrifice and praised him for showing strength like a true Montenegro.
Being the responsible father that he is, Ramon vowed not just to give his son a life that he’s comfortable in and Marites can be truly proud of, but also to extend help to Marites, who he knew was struggling with their finances. There was also an instance when he stormed into a mini gambling den to fetch David and reprimand him for just wasting their money away. He even defended David from those who bullied him for being picked up by his Papa like a child.
While he can be a devoted and protective dad, Ramon can also be a disciplinarian and harsh, for he’s always the first one to castigate him whenever he gets himself in trouble or does something disagreeable, such as when he learned from Marites that their son severely beat Rigor (John Estrada) up.
Will Ramon be soon reunited with his real son—the real Tanggol (Coco Martin)? Let’s all find out in the next episodes of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” weeknights at 8 PM, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
