What seemed to be another ordinary evening turned out to become the greatest nightmare for Ponggay (Maris Racal) and her family as Lucio (Ronnie Lazaro) and the Red Phoenix group attacked their abode in pursuit of silencing Mauro (Richard Quan) before he could even expose what he’d learned about the connection of the Guerreros to the illegal drug trade in the City of Manila.
Unfortunately, even though Tropang Tanggol was there to help them fight against the enemies, they still weren’t able to prevent any collateral damage from happening, as Ponggay’s stepmom, Linda, played by seasoned actress Aleck Bovick, was fatally shot in the chest during the shootout between the groups of Tanggol and Lucio.
She died on the spot, turning everyone in their household emotional as they attended to her lifeless and bloodied body lying on the floor. This further enraged Mauro and Ponggay, making them more determined to finish off Lucio and his group as their way of taking revenge on what they’d done to Linda. However, Mauro was subsequently killed as well after being shot in the chest more than once.
As Aleck signs off from her “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” stint as Linda, let’s hear it straight from her how her experience was working on the series and how this gig has helped her so much, especially when it comes to her personal life.
She began by sharing her most unforgettable scenes, saying that the first one would be her first-ever scene with lead star and director Coco Martin, as Tanggol and his friends went to her beerhouse to supposedly wind down and chill a bit following the heartbreaking demise of their fallen comrade Oweng (Baby Giant Baña). This marked the beginning of Tanggol’s connection with the Garcia family.
The second one was when their family rushed her daughter, Dimples (Criza Taa), to the hospital after she was found unconscious and bloodied while inside a body bag left at the river shore. She recounted that the script for that certain emotion-charged sequence was given to them that same day, which compelled them to go through it and memorize their lines right there and then. Thankfully, her memory was still sharp at the time, so she was able to pull it off.
Aside from her innate skill to memorize lines quickly, Aleck related that the ban on using mobile phones while on the set—which for her is really a good practice—helped her big time to focus on what they were doing.
“’Yong mga rules, kailangan masunod natin ‘yon at saka ‘yong always on time. Lagi ka lang makisama, matuto kang sumunod kung ano man ‘yong rules, kung ano man ang pinapagawa ng directors mo. Matuto kang maging humble lagi,” she stated, which seemed to be her advice to aspiring and younger artists.
As a single mom, the seasoned actress imparted how absolutely grateful she was to be given a source of income, as well as to be able to work alongside her co-actors in this series, most especially actor-director Coco Martin.
“Direk Coco, thank you so much sa opportunity na ipinagkaloob mo sa akin. Sobrang natutuwa ako kasi after ‘Ang Probinsyano’, hindi ko ini-expect na makukuha mo ako ulit dito. Thank you kasi ang laki ng tulong mo sa akin. Thank you so much, and bless you more and your family,” she tearfully conveyed.
