Before they take over the big screen with their upcoming movie “Rekonek,” Gerald Anderson and Bela Padilla first reconnected with fans as they dropped by Kapamilya Chat last December 15 for a playful catch‑up session.

For the “Online or Offline Challenge,” Gerald and Bela were given different scenarios and had to choose whether they’d prefer to handle each one online or offline---revealing their personal habits, quirks, and surprising preferences along the way.

In the first scenario, they were asked what they'd do after a long and tiring day of taping: would they still hop online to scroll through social media, or go completely offline and crash straight into rest mode?

Bela didn’t even hesitate---she’s definitely the type to go online after a long day. “Dun lang ako nagtitingin ng balita, tsaka hindi ako nakakatulog agad,” she shared.

Gerald, on the other hand, drew from his experience filming “Sins of the Father” and chose to go offline. “Pag-uwi ko, wala na [bagsak na]. Minsan hindi na ako umaabot sa kama,” he laughed. He added that despite the exhaustion, he appreciated the calm that comes with disconnecting from social media---something he also reflected on while filming “Rekonek.”

When asked whether they'd go online to reach out or stay offline when old friends invite them to hang out, Bela admitted she’s definitely the offline type as she just doesn’t reply fast. She joked that she doesn’t suffer from FOMO at all, but proudly lives with “JOMO: the Joy of Missing Out.”

Gerald also agreed that he’s fully embracing the “Joy of Missing Out” these days. He shared that he now weighs whether a meetup will actually be productive---a contrast to his younger days, when he would often go out with friends without thinking twice.

For the third scenario, they were asked what they’d do during a family reunion: go online to document the moment or stay offline to soak it all in. Both Bela and Gerald chose to unplug, saying they’d rather live in the moment and give their full attention to their families.

The next scenario focused on their creative process as artists: would they go online to research or stay offline to reflect and brainstorm? Bela proudly chose online, saying she loves gathering references. Gerald agreed, adding that he’s lucky to work with people who are just as collaborative and idea‑driven as he is.

In the final scenario, the Kapamilya stars were asked whether they’d go online to order food or stay offline because they’re on a diet. Bela admitted she instantly goes online since she’s usually the designated person to order food. Gerald agreed, “Masarap din kasi ‘yung bonding over food,” he shared.

When the topic of comfort food came up following the last situation, Bela immediately lit up and said she loves wagyu cubes. Gerald, meanwhile, shared that he doesn’t have a specific go‑to as it all depends on his mood. But if he had to pick, donuts usually win.

Reconnect with Gerald Anderson and Bela Padilla this Christmas through their film “Rekonek,” an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival showing in cinemas starting December 25.
