During their mentoring session, vocal mentor Klarisse de Guzman taught Dia Mate the “twank trick,” which she might find useful in her performance of Maroon 5’s “Sugar.” Dia related, “Feeling ko hindi ‘yong notes ang difficulty sa song na ‘to, [but] ‘yong tono talaga ni Adam Levine kasi nandito sa likod. Kailangan bukaka ‘yong mouth mo at super [exaggerated] ‘yong tone kasi very distinct ‘yong boses niya.”
Meanwhile, movement mentor Nyoy Volante reminded Dia that in order to nail her portrayal of Adam, she needed to master his “quality of being pa-sexy," which includes his mini grinds, since it’s his foundation as a performer.
“May kaba kasi first time ko ‘to. I mean, first time ko impersonating a man. Pero ang saya kasi iba ‘yong experience na ‘to and mas chill ‘yong stage presence niya, in comparison [sa] mga babae na popstar,” she imparted.
