It feels like just yesterday when we were still figuring out who the actors were behind the white masks in the initial teasers of “Lavender Fields” in September 2024. And now, we’d already bid farewell to its characters, whom we admired throughout its four-month run, which ended on Friday, January 17, in a totally unexpected yet satisfying and delightful epilogue.

The “Ang Huling Pagtutuos” finale week commenced with Vitto (Edu Manzano) and Iris’ (Janine Gutierrez) successful abduction of Lily (Jolina Magdangal) and Camilla (Janell Gonzaga) after they were able to outwit Jasmin (Jodi Sta. Maria). The scheming father-and-daughter tandem had their henchmen pretend as NLEA agents, who were supposed to pick Lily and Camilla up from their hideout and transfer them to a safer place upon Jasmin’s request after learning from Tyrone (Jericho Rosales), who was also able to escape prison, that Vitto was about to take his daughter away while being transferred to another detention facility.

Jasmin was almost killed by two other goons, whom she attempted to topple down single-handedly with all her might but to no avail. But Agent Eric Pascual (Race Matias) just came at the right time to save her and immediately take her to the ancestral house of the Buenavidezes, where Vitto and Iris brought Camilla and Lily. At the same time, Tyrone was able to arrive and infiltrate the mansion and knock out all the guards that tried to stop him.

Meanwhile, Lily pleaded with her best friend, Iris, to not get Camilla involved in the strife and to already stop with her vengeful schemes, which fell on deaf ears since she was really determined to exact vengeance on Jasmin and completely get rid of her. Iris’ rage further escalated with Jasmin’s arrival in the scene, more so when Lily stood in front of her as her way of preventing Iris from murdering Jasmin. Just as the tension peaked, Tyrone—a.k.a. Iris’ ultimate weakness—suddenly emerged, which distracted her and forced her to retreat.

Iris and Tyrone had a chance to talk, in which he apologized to her, while she conveyed how angry she was at Jasmin as she blamed her for losing him and their baby. She also made him choose between her and Jasmin, but Tyrone wasn’t able to give her an answer as he had to run away from the approaching goons.

In their desperate attempt to stop Vitto and his minions from taking Camilla away again, Lily was fatally shot by Vitto, which eventually led to her demise. While she was still reeling from the untimely death of Lily, Jasmin discovered that Vitto’s younger daughter, Heather (Analain Salvador), was actually confined in the same hospital. Thus, in order to force Vitto into surrendering Camilla, Jasmin came up with the idea of conniving with her by having her pretend that she was taken as a hostage, to which Heather agreed since she shared the same wishes with her—to make things right and be reunited with their respective families.

Vitto arrived at the event's place owned by Aster (Maricel Soriano), where Jasmin brought Heather but left Camilla to Iris. What was supposed to be a peaceful exchange turned out chaotic after Vitto refused to follow her demand and even shot Jasmin after getting ahold of Heather when Jasmin brought her to him. Jasmin was able to grab Heather and strike Vitto with a vase on the head to stop him from getting aggressive, then Iris arrived and immediately ran back to the car to take Camilla away.

An intense car chase ensued among Iris, Jasmin, and Tyrone, which stopped when Iris reached an uninhabited area where she continued to run away with Camilla. Being the courageous and smart kid that she was, Camilla was able to escape from Iris by biting her hand that clung to her and speeding away. As they agreed to go their separate ways to search for their daughter, Tyrone encountered Vitto and his minions, while Jasmin figured in a fiery fisticuff with Iris.

The two women’s scuffle only stopped when Camilla arrived and Jasmin swiftly took her away despite being shot by Iris on her right shoulder. Vitto also came and was eager to gun down Jasmin, but he was prevented by Iris as she feared that he would hit Camilla. Unfortunately, it was Iris who Vitto eventually killed after he mistook her for Jasmin as his vision get hazy when he fired his gun.

Of course, Vitto pinned the blame on Jasmin, who told her that it was his karma for all the crimes that he committed. This provoked him to aim his gun at Camilla, which prompted Jasmin to rise up and shield her daughter, which resulted in her being the one to catch the bullet. He didn’t succeed in shooting her again as he shortly got moved by the pleas of Camilla and Iris, as well as Tyrone, who came and shoved him down the hill.

In the finale episode, we got to see Mira (Jana Agoncillo) bade farewell to her friends Myrtle (Kystal Mejes), JP (Miguel Vergara), and Gio (Marc Santiago) as she was about to start a new life in Boston with her dad. Tyrone and Vitto were in jail, while Heather was admitted to a mental institution. Zandro, meanwhile, was able to recover from comatose and got promoted as NLEA Deputy Director.

Just when some viewers probably thought that Jasmin was already dead, well, she fell into a comatose state and finally woke up after several years. But before regaining consciousness, she had a heartwarming encounter with her late mother, Rosita (Lotlot de Leon), who encouraged her to go back to life since her unica hija was waiting for her and reminded Jasmin that what happened to her was never her fault since she just loved. Since many years had passed, Tyrone had already grown more gray hairs while Camilla was already pre-teen.

It was later on revealed that Patrick (Justine Luzares) and Petunia (Pamu Pamorada) were already set free after getting imprisoned for their involvement in the crimes of the Buenavidezes, while Tyrone was emancipated after four years due to his statement against BSM and even got hired in an accounting firm and got promoted despite his background. Their friends Dahlia (Cheena Crab) and Tommy (Benj Manalo) got married while Mang Berting (Eric Nicolas), who helped in taking good care of Camilla and Jasmin when Tyrone was still in jail, was able to find love.

At Camilla's birthday party, Jasmin fulfilled their daughter’s wish for her to say “Yes” to Tyrone’s marriage proposal–to the glee of their friends who had witnessed that lovely moment.

Valuable takeaways, stellar performances of the cast, and varied feedbacks from netizens

Throughout its four-month remarkable run, “Lavender Fields” had indeed never fallen short in bringing excitement, kilig, and even tears and heartbreaks to its avid viewers as we’d witnessed a lot of heartwarming, romantic, and, most especially, action-packed moments. And that went on until the very end as we were treated to a truly explosive and delightful finale, which received varied reactions from netizens.

Lavender Fields” stood out and enthralled the audiences through the contemporary flavor injected into it, its fast pacing, and its surprising plot reveals. So, kudos to its brilliant pool of writers and top-caliber directors Emmanuel Palo and Jojo Saguin for a job well done.

Moreover, the astounding and riveting portrayals of its powerhouse cast, which were composed of veterans, seasoned actors, newcomers, and new generation of stars, were what made it a must-watch.

“Philippine Drama Icons” Maricel Soriano, Edu Manzano, and Albert Martinez once again amazed us with their award-winning acting prowess, while child-turned-teen stars Krystal Mejes, Marc Santiago, Miguel Vergara, and Jana Agoncillo impressed us with their promising dramatic chops. The spectacular performances of the rest of the supporting cast members shouldn’t be overlooked, too, as they helped in bringing out the best in their co-actors.

But we can all agree that it’s the four lead actors—Jodi Sta. Maria, Jericho Rosales, Janine Gutierrez, and Jolina Magdangal—who shone the brightest in the series with their remarkable, extraordinary, and stellar portrayals. As what they’d mentioned in their past interviews, the four of them took on roles that were totally different from the ones they previously brought to life.

Apart from their talent in drama, they also exhibited their skills in doing action through the stunts and skirmishes of their characters, which the audiences probably hadn't seen yet. Indeed, Janine deserves a special mention for her compelling portrayal of Iris, even though it was her first-ever foray in being a kontrabida.

Of course, adorable and talented child actress Janell Gonzaga shouldn’t be forgotten for her promising depiction of Camilla.

Apart from delivering astounding acting performances, thrilling and engrossing scenes, and captivating and exciting narratives, “Lavender Fields” also instilled valuable life lessons in the audiences.

Among those is for us to remain steadfast, strong, and resilient amid the challenges and obstacles that we go through in life until we succeed in achieving whatever it is that we wish to have or is important to us. Besides, we will always have chances to redeem ourselves by living a renewed life and repenting for our mistakes as long as we are alive and have hope in our hearts.

The finale indeed drew mixed reactions from viewers since while some are satisfied that Jasmin had a happily ever after with Tyrone and Camilla—which she truly deserved—there are others who envision Camilla growing up in the presence not just of Jasmin, but of her two other mother figures, Lily and Iris. At the same time, there are others who wanted Jasmin to end up with Zandro instead because of their unmistakable chemistry.
