For Jolina Magdangal, her return to the teleserye scene with “Lavender Fields” was definitely a rewarding journey. After years away from taking on complicated dramatic characters, stepping into the shoes of Lily Atienza proved to be a gratifying experience, as it taught her lessons about love, courage, and the complexity of human emotions
As “Lavender Fields” reaches its final week, Jolina opens up about what it was like portraying a character so rich with depth and nuance.
With any big role comes great challenges, but for Jolina, the fun always outweighed the tough moments. On set, they felt like one big family, and work became lighter because everyone was warm and welcoming. She added that the production team was extra thoughtful as well.
"Nag-uumapaw ang aking kasiyahan, ang aking kakiligan na napasama ako dito sa isang napakalaking proyekto ng Dreamscape [Entertainment]," she shared, expressing her heartfelt gratitude for being chosen to portray Lily, who resonated with her in many ways, especially in being a loyal friend and a devoted mom. It’s no secret how much Jolina values friendship and motherhood in real life. And while there were facets of Lily that differed from her true self, those differences became valuable lessons for her along the way.
As viewers, we witnessed how multifaceted Lily truly was. The character seemed at first like a doormat-loyal best friend to Iris (Janine Gutierrez) until she learned to unleash her fierce, dangerous side when her maternal instincts were put to the test.
"Ang loyalty ay hindi sa lahat na lang ng bagay," Jolina reflected about her greatest takeaway from Lily’s colorful narrative. "May mga nawala at may mga mawawala, pero ipinaglaban niya kung ano ‘yung tama at ipinaglaban niya kung saan dapat ang tama."
“Thank you so much, Lily, hinding-hindi kita makakalimutan,” she would like to tell her character.
