It is believed that grandparents are likely to get closer with their grandkids than their own children. And this is apparently the case for the lola-apo tandem of Aster and Mira in “Lavender Fields,” compellingly portrayed by the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and teen star Jana Agoncillo.
Let’s revisit their 10 heartwarming moments together in this edition of Kapamilya Toplist!
As we all know, Mira is the daughter of Aster’s estranged unica, Marigold (Kate Alejandrino), whom they’ve been searching for years now. Unbeknownst to them, she died after accidentally falling off the stairs at the Buenavidez residence during an intense fight with Heather (Analain Salvador), the youngest daughter of her beau, Vittorio (Edu Manzano).
Since Mira was really young when her mom suddenly vanished, she couldn’t help but yearn to see her again, especially now that her dad already has another family. Thus, her “Mamita,” as she fondly calls Aster, would always remind her to not lose hope yet.
Well, that’s because Aster is hoping that Jasmine (Jodi Sta. Maria), a young woman who also holds grudges against the Buenavidezes and aims to exact vengeance against them, would be able to help them search for Marigold and find out the truth behind her sudden disappearance. Aster had a hunch that Vitto had something to do with her daughter’s vanishing as she remembered them having an intense confrontation the last time that they were together.
Fearing for the safety of her one and only granddaughter, Aster initially opted to hide the whole truth behind her mom’s connection with the Buenavidezes as she sought the help of Jasmine and the authorities in protecting them while also seeking the truth. She also considered sending Mira back to the United States, which the latter highly objected to.
However, Aster couldn’t help but eventually reveal the truth to Mira after the latter insisted that it’s also her right to know since she’s her mom and she’s worried about her too. She might have regretted it later on as her granddaughter has now gotten entangled in the mess, but Mira assured her that it’s okay and she would rather stay by her side until they’re able to completely figure it out.
Even though she has to deal with the sudden loss of her own daughter, Aster made sure to fill the void it inflicted on her granddaughter by taking good care of her, raising her well, teaching her the things that she should know like proper flower arrangement, and cheering her up whenever she feels blue, especially now that her dad seems to not care for her anymore. Aster also constantly exerts effort in making her apo happy, such as by preparing Mira’s favorite food and granting her wishes, regardless of how difficult it would be for her. Besides, Aster would also do anything to keep Mira away from harm, especially now that the Buenavidezes are after them.
In return, Mira vowed to be strong for her Mamita and take care and love her as well during her heart-rending conversation with Jasmine.
