Noy (Lou Veloso), the lovable and quick-witted character portrayed by Lou Veloso, was tragically killed off in a recent episode of “FPJ's Batang Quiapo.” And the whole nation is still grieving. But instead of focusing on the tears, maybe we can choose to celebrate Noy the way he’d want us to—with laughter!
Whether he was dropping hilariously snarky one-liners or getting caught in the most ridiculous situations, Noy’s comedic timing was effortlessly on-point. In honor of his unforgettable humor, here’s a look back at his funniest scenes as compiled by Kapamilya Toplist.
As an ‘honorary member’ of the Dimaguiba family, Noy was well-acquainted with all their issues. He knew every member to the core, which is why he hilariously dubbed David (McCoy de Leon) “Boy Tutol" when the latter lashed out at Tanggol (Coco Martin) for taking in two orphaned kids.
In the next scene, after exhausting all possible means to cover Tindeng's (Charo Santos) bail, Noy came up with the idea of pawning their old television set. He asked Santino (Ronwaldo Martin) to take it to the pawnshop, but both Santino and Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) objected, arguing that no one would accept something so vintage. Always the household's classic comedian, he said, “Alangan naman isangla ko ang sarili ko ‘no?" And then further quipped, "Ay, luma na rin pala ako.”
In a scene at the market outside the church, where Noy, Tindeng (Charo Santos), and Marites sold religious items, they brainstormed strategies to earn more and pay off their greedy landlord, Roda (Joel Lamangan). He offered a solution in the form of a prayer, “Sana mas dumami ang problemado sa ating bansa." Tindeng and Marites had sharp reactions, to which he countered, “O, ‘di ba ‘pag maraming problema, maraming nagsisimba. O, tingnan n’yo, ‘pag pasukan ang daming nagpupunta sa simbahan dahil naghahanap o humihingi ng pang-tuition.” His logic was that more churchgoers meant more chances to sell religious items. But Tindeng, ever the optimist, suggested a more hopeful prayer: “Ang hilingin mo na lamang ay patuloy tayong biyayaan ng Panginoong Diyos para mas maraming magsimba.” Noy, of course, couldn’t resist adding his own twist. Looking up to the heavens, he said, “Panginoon, sana ambunan ng swerte ang lahat ng tao para hindi naman kay Roda lang napupunta ang lahat ng benta namin.”
In one scene, Tanggol visited his Loley Tindeng and Lolo Noy's stall bringing pansit for merienda, and confessed that he managed to bail her grandma out by stealing money and jewelry from Roda, who had provoked Tindeng and which caused her to be sent to jail. Tindeng felt so guilty for her grandson’s action, but Noy assured her that it was simply karmic justice and that there was nothing wrong with what Tanggol did because, “mas mali kung lalamig ang pansit.”
We also witnessed his comedic mischief when he sneakily snatched food in a plastic bag during Mokang (Lovi Poe)’s debut party. When Tindeng and Marites called him out, he served up a witty alibi, claiming it was "pagkain ng pusa" for take-home.
Of course, we can’t forget the scene where Noy and Tindeng found themselves worrying about how to earn money after leaving Rigor’s (John Estrada) house. As an expert at finding humor in even the most serious situations, Noy suggested they change careers to snatching and theft, topped off with the idea of Tindeng working in a nightclub. When Tindeng playfully asked, “Palagay mo may asim pa ako?” Noy’s exaggerated reaction had us in stitches: “Poong Nazareno, pinag-isipan talaga!” Keeping with the mood, Tindeng kept the banter going by suggesting that Noy learn to do manicures and pedicures, an idea which he absolutely loved. “Expert ako d’yan!” he gleefully responded.
Noy as the 'Queen of Facial Reactions'—yas! We’re sure that moment when David brought home a pregnant Camille (Yukii Takahashi) had you cracking up. After a serious conversation about the couple’s relationship and Camille’s pregnancy, she cheerfully told Tindeng that David used to brag about how close he was with her. Knowing full well that was a big fat lie, Noy couldn’t resist injecting some humor in the scene. With his signature wide-eyed look, his face screamed disbelief as he reacted, “Diyos na mahabagin! Sinabi niya ‘yun?”
Only Noy could verbally strike David’s arrogance with his wit. There was a scene where he went full-on 'marites' and peeked inside David and Camille’s newly-renovated room, saying, “Wow! Ang ganda! Ipa-blessing n’yo na agad parang pinamumugaran na ng masamang espiritu.” And when David shooed him away, he murmured, “Sumanib na nga ang masamang espiritu.”
Since he treated the Dimaguiba siblings like his own grandchildren, Noy was genuinely proud when Santino expressed his desire to return to school. But, of course, not without lightening the mood with a joke: “Dahil babad ka sa bilyaran, sigurado ako magaling ka sa geometry, trigonometry; huwag lang absentry.”
We also couldn’t get enough of his verbal showdowns with the equally amusing Roda. One time, the two had a short but hilarious exchange when they bumped into each other after Roda’s house was burned down, and she accused Tanggol of arson. Naturally, Noy defended Tanggol, leading to a witty back-and-forth. Noy then playfully offered to donate some clothes to Roda after discovering they’d be neighbors, but Roda, in her usual fiery manner, dismissed him, saying his clothes were old and probably smelled bad. As Roda walked away, Noy whispered, “Dapat ma-persona non grata ng barangay.”
We’ll remember Noy for his hilarious way of throwing shade, from ‘pang-ookray’ or poking fun at Marsing (Pen Medina) and Nita (Susan Africa)’s new looks to their financial rollercoaster. Noy’s witty side comments always added a dose of laughter to the scenes. One time, he subtly roasted Nita’s shimmering blouse, joking, “Si Nita, ginulat mo ako, akala ko naglakad ‘yung Sto. Niño ko.”
In another cheeky conversation with Tindeng, this time about Marsing and Nita’s fleeting taste of luxury followed by the couple's misfortune, Noy couldn’t help but drop a side-splitting remark: “Ang dating Don Marsing, eh, ngayon nagmukhang Don Matsing.”
Noy's 'hirits' may be simple, but they're always an easy sell, like when he and Tindeng got into a commotion, and after the incident, she told him, “Ayusin mo nga ‘yang mukha mo” so they wouldn’t look like they’d just been in a chase. His reply? “Wala na itong iaayos." LOL!
Another classic moment was when Tindeng and Marites decided they would take over the store while Noy stayed home with Camille. As he cheerfully watered the plants outside, he quipped, “Kami na lang magaganda ang maiiwan sa bahay.”
Remember when they first arrived at the Caballero mansion to work as helpers for Senyora Bettina (Tessie Tomas) and her family? When the head of the housemaids, Pacing (Malou Crisologo), handed them their uniforms, Noy laughed cheekily and remarked, "Walang sequins." Haha!
