The ultimate mother-off of Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre is on the horizon! The official teaser for the upcoming 51st Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Call Me Mother” dropped on Star Cinema’s social media pages and YouTube channel on Friday, October 10, and it’s already giving equal parts camp, chaos, and emotion.

Directed by Jun Robles Lana and written by Daisy G. Cayanan, Daniel S. Saniana, and Lana himself, the film is a co-production between ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc., The IdeaFirst Company, and Viva Communications Inc.

The film follows Vice Ganda as Twinkle, a fabulous single queer mother whose dream of officially adopting her son is shaken when the boy’s biological mother, played by Nadine Lustre, unexpectedly reappears. What follows is a tug-of-war of love, pride, and motherhood that’s as hilarious as it is heartfelt.

The teaser opens with a bang. We see Vice Ganda skateboarding through a hospital hallway, baby in arms, towel on her head, and Christmas lights wrapped around her body, screaming: “Saklolo! Tulong! ’Yung bata!” A voiceover plays over the chaos: “Laging tinatanong: paano ginagawa ang mga anak?”

The tone then shifts to introduce Nadine Lustre, looking out the car window in quiet contemplation as her voice over says, “Iniisip ko lang kung nasa mabuting kalagayan ba s’ya ngayon? Baby pa lang s’ya noong huli ko s’yang nakita.”

The teaser unfolds through a series of touching and comedic montages: Twinkle bonding with her now-grown son (played by Lucas Andalio), their quirky household filled with laughter and love, and the brewing tension when Nadine’s character steps back into the picture.

We also get a glimpse of the film’s supporting cast — Brent Manalo, Mika Salamanca, Esnyr, Klarisse Manalo, and Shuvee Etrata — bringing extra sparkle to the already vibrant mix.

In one emotional flashback, Vice’s character lies in a hospital bed beside an infant as a doctor asks, “Sino po ang magulang ng bata?” The moment lands with weight, before Twinkle’s voice cuts in: “Pero ako, gusto kong malaman: paano naman ginagawa ang isang ina?”

While this teaser is hinting at extremely exciting confrontations, that question by Twinkle surely leaves us asking ourselves: How does one become a mother? And what makes a mother a real mother?

With Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre headlining and Jun Robles Lana steering, “Call Me Mother” is shaping up to be the most fabulously unhinged, emotional, and empowering comedy-drama of the holiday season.

Catch “Call Me Mother” as it struts to cinemas this December 25 for the MMFF! While we wait for it, get ready to be drawn to Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre’s diva face off in the official teaser here:
