MANILA -- American singer David Archuleta considered his newest single “Crème Brulée” as a coming of age song for him.
In a media roundtable on Wednesday, Archuleta opened up about his flirty pop anthem, which is the first single of his upcoming extended play.
"Crème Brûlée was made because I was finally getting comfortable with being flirty and kind of getting into naughty situations and enjoying the attention I was getting. So it’s kind of like a coming of age song for me is how it felt eventhough I’m in my 30s, but it was really like my version of my coming of age," Archuleta told ABS-CBN News.
"Being flirty being a little more sexy being a little more naughty and the are innuendos in the song. But it’s still chill. It’s still laid-back. The point was not to be in your face so much. It’s like a chill way of vibin' and having fun and dancing like in the video," he added.
According to Archuleta “Crème Brulée” was the first "playful and sexy" song he composed. It's a track that show's Archuleta in his real element. Archuleta composed the song with Robyn Dell’Unto, Ryan Nealon and produced by Michael Blum.
Aside from the words he would use, the singer said that doing it in Spanish and English or Spanglish is one of the challenges in composing the track.
"The hardest thing about the track? I think it was the first time that I ever wrote something that was a little naughtier and a little more playful and sexy. That was I think that was maybe the biggest challenge of it being like 'can I really say this?' and then be like 'oh yeah, I can.' So it wasn’t too hard. It really was, it felt like an effortless song and I’m always glad when those songs come in it’s just kind of magical," he said.
"And it was so fun adding the Spanish maybe like also trying to make sure that I was saying the Spanish the way that I wanted it to sound. I speak in Spanglish just like the song is Spanglish so my Spanish isn’t always perfect, but I had my mom check it. 'Mom, how does this sound? Does this sound OK?' and she’s like 'yeah that sounds good.' I’m OK. She’s like 'let me ask my dad to make sure' 'cause he’s like he speaks very proper Spanish and he only speaks Spanish and she be like 'yeah I’d all sounds good.' And yeah, that was the biggest challenge but really was luckily pretty," Archuleta added.
Archuleta who had so much fan creating his newest song and its music video, said that he just want his fans and listeners to enjoy “Crème Brulée.”
Archuleta, “American Idol" Season 7 runner-up, first held a concert in the Philippines back in 2009 along with “American Idol" winner David Cook.
Just last year, Archuleta returned to Manila and held a concert for his Filipino fans.
