Hong Kong actor and filmmaker Stephen Chow's sports comedy film "Kung Fu Soccer" is set to take the field in Philippine cinemas this August.
Distributed locally by Encore Films Philippines, the movie will open in theaters nationwide on August 19, according to a press release.
Regarded as the spiritual successor to Chow's 2001 hit "Shaolin Soccer," the film follows a women's football team as its players overcome doubts and setbacks in pursuit of their dreams.
The film features a star-studded cast led by actress-comedian Zhang Xiaofei, C-drama star Dilraba Dilmurat ("You Are My Glory"), and Zhang Yixing, better known as Lay of K-pop group EXO.
The film also features appearances by veteran actress Carina Lau, Japanese actor Takeru Satoh and Hollywood-based comedian Jimmy O. Yang.
