MANILA — The long-awaited romance-drama "Someone, Someday," starring Kathryn Bernardo, James Reid and Maja Salvador, had its free TV premiere on Monday, July 27, with a pilot episode that opened with a wedding-day betrayal and introduced the relationships that will drive the primetime series.

The episode introduces Billy (Kathryn Bernardo), a successful entrepreneur devoted to her family, and her best friend Jordan (James Reid), who has been by her side since childhood. The two share a deep bond, having both lost their mothers at a young age, making them each other's closest source of support.

The pilot opens with what should have been Billy's wedding day, as family and friends gather at a church awaiting the ceremony. The celebration quickly turns to heartbreak when her best friend Jordan tells her that the groom, Alvin (JC de Vera), is not coming.

Furious, Billy rushes to confront Alvin, who is preparing to leave with another woman, played by Arci Muñoz. She rams her car toward him but stops just in time, then confronts him over his betrayal.

"Pero ginawa mo pa rin. Why? Why?" she asks before Jordan persuades her to walk away, telling her the cheating fiancé "isn't worth it."

Later, Billy drowns her sorrows with friends and her aunt Pres (Dimples Romana), who assures her that it's okay to cry. Billy insists she has already shed her last tears over a man.

The episode then reveals why. In a flashback, a young Billy watches helplessly as her father (Rowell Santiago) abandons the family, leaving behind her pregnant mother (Iza Calzado). Before he leaves, Billy's mother reminds her never to waste tears on worthless men because they do not need them to survive.

Back in the present, Jordan asks Billy to dance, reassuring her that he will always be by her side. "I got you," he tells his best friend before the two share a light-hearted moment cursing Alvin.

Three years later, Billy has rebuilt her life as the confident but compassionate CEO of LoveList, a dating app that aims to empower women in finding meaningful relationships.

During the company's second anniversary celebration, Billy is asked about her love life and whether Jordan, now LoveList's head of IT, is her boyfriend. The rumors are quickly dispelled when Jordan arrives with his girlfriend, Valerie (Daniela Stranner), who jokes that she met him through fate rather than the dating app.

The celebration is cut short when Billy returns home and finds her diabetic younger brother, Oliver (Migs Casimiro), unconscious on the floor. She rushes him to the hospital with Jordan by her side.

As Billy anxiously waits for news, the episode flashes back to another frantic trip to the hospital years earlier. A young Billy desperately drives her pregnant mother to seek medical help after she goes into labour. Along the way, she appears to hit something on the road but is unable to stop and check. The flashback ends with her mother dying shortly after giving birth to Oliver.

Back in the present, Billy breaks down in tears after Oliver regains consciousness and gives her a reassuring thumbs-up. Standing beside her, Jordan silently offers his handkerchief, once again proving that he remains her constant source of support.

The episode closes another gap in Billy and Jordan's shared history with a flashback showing how they first met as children. Both grieving the loss of their mothers, the two cross paths at a cemetery, marking the beginning of the friendship that would shape their lives.

Back in the present, Oliver's condition stabilizes after doctors brief Billy on the care he will need following his hospitalization. Outside the hospital, Jordan is surprised to find Valerie waiting to pick him up after learning he had rushed to Billy's side.

Later, Jordan returns to the bar he manages, where he gets into a scuffle after confronting a customer who tried to scam them. With work still unfinished, he turns down Valerie's invitation for a midnight snack.

Billy, meanwhile, returns to the LoveList office while keeping in touch with her aunt Pres, who is looking after Oliver during his recovery. As she presents a new feature for the dating app to her team, the meeting is unexpectedly interrupted by Valerie.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Valerie asks Billy for a favor that leaves her visibly stunned — to help plan her marriage proposal to Jordan.

A teaser for the next episode also introduces the mysterious Abi (Maja Salvador), hinting at her imminent arrival in Billy's life.

Directed by Chad Vidanes and Dolly Dulu under Dreamscape Entertainment, "Someone, Someday" airs weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, Jeepney TV, A2Z, and TV5. It's also streaming on Netflix and iWant.
