Charo Santos, KD Estrada and AC Bonifacio are joining the cast of upcoming Filipino animated series "Sun Chaser," with Manny Jacinto and Liza Soberano.
According to a report published on April 21 by Variety, the animated adventure-comedy will premiere its first episode at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 21 to June 27 in Annecy, France.
Sun Chaser, a Filipino-rooted animated project, won the Animation du Monde Prize (All Categories) at the MIFA 2025, marking a milestone for Philippine animation on the global stage.
The project, grounded in Filipino identity and personal storytelling, drew praise from international juries and audiences.
Its creators, Bobby Pontillas and Bernard Badion, credited collaborators including Toon City, Hit Productions Inc. and Playlab Animation for bringing the project to life.
They also acknowledged support from the Animation Council of the Philippines, Film Development Council of the Philippines and the Department of Trade and Industry.
“Let’s keep chasing the sun,” the team said in a statement.
The film follows the story of Jordan Santos (Manny Jacinto), “a self-absorbed teen whose carefree summer is upended when an ancient icy villain attacks his grandmother’s island in the Philippines. Thrust into an unexpected role as protector of his younger cousins, Jordan and his crew are pulled into a mythic ocean realm, setting sail aboard a legendary vessel known as the Sun Chaser. As they navigate enchanted seas and extraordinary islands to rescue his grandmother and save the island, Jordan must evolve from a reluctant kid into a true leader.”
Also joining Jacinto and Soberano are Dingdong Dantes and his daughter Zia Dantes, as well as Eugene Cordero and JR De Guzman.
