MANILA — As the hit mystery drama “What Lies Beneath” approaches its much-anticipated finale, its lead stars are feeling a mix of excitement, gratitude, and nostalgia as they look back on the journey that kept audiences guessing night after night.
For Sue Ramirez, the nearing end of the series feels almost surreal, especially since she has also been one of the show’s biggest fans.
“Mahaba pa. Yun yung naisip ko,” Sue admitted. “Kasi, actually, kahit ako, fan ako nung show. Nanonood talaga ako. Inaabangan ko siya every night. Kung hindi ko mapanood tonight, i-binge-watch ko siya tomorrow o kung kailan ako available.”
Despite the show’s impending conclusion, Sue shared that part of her still wishes the story could continue.
“So ako, wish ko sana humaba. Pero I’m very, very excited kasi simula hanggang matapos kami, kapit na kapit pa rin yung mga tao,” she said, referring to the strong engagement of viewers who have remained invested in the mystery surrounding Louisa’s death.
Actress Charlie Dizon echoed the sentiment, saying the cast will deeply miss both the show and the routine of watching episodes together even outside the set.
“Nakakalungkot, siyempre. Mamimiss namin itong show,” she said. “Hindi lang us na nagti-taping, pero pinapanood namin siya gabi-gabi. Nagtatawagan kami, nagtatanungan kami ‘Napanood mo ba yung last episode?’ Ganon kami.”
She also noted that the mystery has sparked endless curiosity among viewers.
“Hanggang ngayon sinasabi na marami pa ring nanonood. Kapag nasa labas kami, ang dami pa ring nagtatanong kung sinong pumatay kay Louisa,” Charlie shared with a smile. “Malapit na malapit na po, malalaman niyo na.”
For Kaila Estrada, the upcoming finale brings both excitement and nervous anticipation as fans finally discover the truth.
“Ako, I’m actually both nervous and excited na malaman yung reaction nila sa finale,” Kaila said. “Gusto ko na malaman kung ano magiging thoughts nila pag nalaman nila kung sino talaga yung killer ni Louisa.”
With theories continuing to circulate online, Kaila revealed she often keeps track of fan discussions, including those on Reddit.
“Ang dami nang nare-reveal ngayon pa lang. Ang dami ng theories,” she said. “I’m gonna miss people’s reactions… I’m gonna miss reading the threads about What Lies Beneath on Reddit. Natutuwa ako sa mga fans.”
Beyond the gripping storyline, the cast also formed strong friendships behind the scenes. Charlie fondly recalled their bonding moments during breaks on set.
“Siguro yung moments na magkakasama kami, kumakain kami talaga. Fried chicken. Lagi kaming may fried chicken,” she laughed, remembering their frequent food trips and playful interactions during taping.
But more than just a mystery drama, “What Lies Beneath” also became a platform for powerful conversations about women’s strength and empowerment.
Reflecting on Sue Ramirez’s character Mel and her fight as a woman, Charlie shared a message for women who may feel silenced.
“Huwag mong hayaan na ma-silent ka ng ibang tao. Always speak up. Kung pinanghinaan ka ng loob, madami tayo. Madami tayong kababaihan,” she said. “Huwag na huwag ka papatalo dahil sinasabing babae ka lang.”
Kaila echoed the same message of solidarity.
“There are so many women who are standing by you,” she said. “Your voice needs to be heard because you never know who else you’re going to help as well.”
Sue added that while support from others is important, personal courage remains key.
“As much as you need help from other people, ikaw at ikaw lang din talaga yung makakapagdesisyon kung kailan mo gustong palayain yung sarili mo,” she said. “Better kung magawa mo na agad at huwag mo nang pahirapan pa yung sarili mo.”
Meanwhile, Janella Salvador acknowledged that speaking up is not always easy for those in difficult situations.
“Pag andun kasi sa situation na yun, mahirap talaga siya,” Janella said. “It’s so easy for people to tell you to speak up, open up, but sometimes you feel like the best thing to do is just to keep it to yourself.”
Still, she emphasized that no one has to face struggles alone.
“Just know that you’re not alone. Many people are willing to help you,” she said. “You’ve got so many women around you who are willing to lift you up, to fight for you, to speak up for you.”
As the mystery of Louisa’s death finally reaches its resolution, the cast hopes viewers will stay until the very end, where all the questions will finally be answered.
