The power of the line became even more meaningful when Angelica revealed 13 years later that it was rooted in her real personal life. In an interview with MJ Felipe on The B Side last December, she shared that the words came from her own experience during a breakup when they were filming the movie. While talking to Director Ruel about her personal frustrations, she casually expressed the thought about money lasting longer than patience. The director immediately recognized its weight and decided to include it in the film.
“‘Ang ganda nung linya. Gawan natin ng eksena mamaya,’” Angelica recalled the director saying.
Angelica revealed that the scene was actually improvised and was shot in just one take, with Dingdong barely having lines that added to its raw and natural feel.
“So ginawan nga niya ng eksena. Kung mapapansin niyo si Dingdong walang linya dun, nagmu-mumble lang siya...One take [lang] kami non kasi nga siningit niya lang talaga ‘yun. Hindi ‘yun kasali,” Angelica revealed.
One More Try was one of the eight official entries at the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) and went on to win several major awards, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor Award for Dingdong. The following year, Angelica herself was recognized during the 44th Box-Office Entertainment Awards winning the Film Actress of the Year, further cementing her reputation as an actress capable of delivering emotional truth with depth and grace.
Angel also won Movie Actress of the Year in the PMPC Star Awards for Movies while Miguel claimed the Best Child Performer of the Year at the FAMAS Awards.
