Barbie Forteza portrays a young woman determined to be "bad and brave" to escape her seemingly miserable life, as revealed Thursday in the trailer for the Netflix original film "Kontrabida Academy."
The trailer, posted on Netflix Philippines' social media pages, introduces viewers to Forteza's character, Gigi, who endures being treated as a pushover at work, at home and even by her supposed romantic partner.
Things take a turn when Gigi is invited by Mauricia (Eugene Domingo) to enroll in the titular Kontrabida Academy, where she is expected to learn how to be bad, fabulous and brave.
What follows is a series of comic events as Gigi tries to master the art of being a “kontrabida,” or villain, as shown in the trailer.
"Naniniwala ako sa 'yo. Kapag natapos mo ang kursong ito, magiging maayos ang buhay mo sa labas," Mauricia tells Gigi at one point in the video.
(I believe in you. Once you finish this course, your life outside will be better.)
"Kontrabida Academy" will premiere on Netflix on September 11.
The film is directed by Chris Martinez, known for comedy films such as "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank" and "Here Comes the Bride."
Apart from Forteza and Domingo, the cast also features Jameson Blake, Michael de Mesa, Ysabel Ortega, Xyriel Manabat, Carmina Villaroel and Yasser Marta.
Netflix first announced the project in January.
