Daniel Radcliffe revealed that he recently wrote a letter to Dominic McLaughlin, the young actor stepping into the iconic role of Harry Potter in the upcoming HBO Original series.
"I wouldn’t say that anyone who is going to play Harry has to [reach out to me], but I know a few people working on the production. I wrote to Dominic and sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back," he revealed in an interview on Good Morning America.
He also described what he wrote to the new child star. "I don't want to be a specter in the life of these children but I just wanted to write to him to say, 'I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time,'" he said.
Daniel added that seeing Dominic and the rest of the new Harry Potter cast has stirred up many memories from his own childhood years on set.
"I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them. They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, 'Oh, it's crazy I was doing that at that age.' But it's also incredibly sweet and I hope they're having a great time," he stated.
The previous Harry Potter movie franchise was headlined by Daniel alongside Emma Watson and Rupert Grint from 2001 to 2011.
It was in May when the cast of the upcoming Harry Potter series was announced.
"Dear Mr. Potter, Miss Granger, and Mr. Weasley: We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please welcome Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley to the HBO Original Series Harry Potter," HBO announced at that time.
As per past report by Variety, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod expressed in a statement their excitement for the audiences to see the magic of the lead cast on the screen.
"After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen," they said.
They also extended their gratitude to everyone who auditioned for the roles. "We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there," they stated.
Other cast members of the upcoming Harry Potter series include Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley.
Additionally, Sienna Moosah will play as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
According to a previous report by Deadline, the Harry Potter series will start shooting this year. "This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years," Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO & Max Content, remarked. He also guaranteed fans that the show will be "a faithful adaptation" to the books.
