Netflix has released the official trailer for the final season of Stranger Things on Thursday, October 30.
In the trailer, the Hawkins crew faces their toughest challenge yet as the town falls under military quarantine and Vecna unleashes a new wave of horrors.
"We're really starting to lose it. Being stuck in here. No end in sight. Maybe tonight is our break. We find Vecna. We end this once and for all. Together," Mike said in the trailer as they gear up to fight Vecna.
Towards the end of the clip, Vecna delivers a chilling line to Will: "William, you are going to help me, one last time."
According to Netflix's Tudum, season 5 picks up with Hawkins still reeling from the Rifts that opened at the end of Season 4. The heroes reunite with one goal, which is to find and kill Vecna, who has mysteriously vanished.
As the government places the town under military quarantine and intensifies its hunt for Eleven, she's forced back into hiding. With the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaching and a new darkness looming, the group must stand together one last time to end the nightmare once and for all.
Volume 1 of Stranger Things Season 5 will premiere on November 26, followed by Volume 2 on Christmas Day. The final episode is set for release on New Year’s Eve.
The main cast returning for Stranger Things Season 5 includes Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), and Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna).
Series co-creator Ross Duffer teased what makes this season different from the previous seasons. "I think what's unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4," he shared with Tudum.
He went on: "We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start."
Series co-creator Matt Duffer added that the Hawkins crew are not experiencing normal life this time. "Nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore. [On lockdown], their movement is restricted, and there are Big Brother cameras everywhere. So not only are they active — their everyday, normal lives are anything but," he relayed.
