MANILA — The cast of "What Lies Beneath" shared their excitement, gratitude, and preparations for the upcoming psychological drama series directed by Dado C. Lumibao and Froy Allan Leonardo.
This series features a talented lineup, including Kaila Estrada, Charlie Dizon, Janella Salvador, Sue Ramirez, Jake Cuenca, JM de Guzman, Jameson Blake, Yves Flores, and Race Matias.
Sue said that she jumped at the chance to be part of the project after hearing about it from her close friend, Charlie Dizon.
“By the time that they pitched to me, I already knew. And I already knew that I was going to say ‘yes’ to this project,” she said.
Kaila shared a similar feeling, calling her role in the cast “meant to be,” and expressed her gratitude that the production team waited for her to wrap up another project before she joined "What Lies Beneath."
“Feeling ko baka talagang meant to be ako sa project na ‘to dahil nahintay ako ng RCD, nahintay akong matapos ‘yung “Incognito” bago ako sumalang dito,” she expressed.
Jake Cuenca was thrilled about the chance to dive into new emotional depths as an actor.
“When I found out initially I was so excited… parang for me kasi as an actor you have an opportunity to experience something you’ve never experienced before… For me. I’ll never forget this project,” he said.
JM de Guzman also expressed his appreciation, describing the set as warm and passionate.
“Siyempre with the casts, with my directors, sobrang blessed ko na makatrabaho sila. Parang I feel at home everytime nagte-taping… sobrang warm, welcoming ng mga tao and sobrang passionate,” he shared.
Director Dado Lumibao explained that casting the ensemble took time, as they were looking for actors who could truly “humanize” their complex roles.
As the series delves into themes of trauma and deception, the actors reflected on their emotional journeys.
Sue described the experience as “raw,” emphasizing the importance of empathy and collaboration in portraying her character’s struggles.
JM highlighted the need to protect his mental and emotional well-being when dealing with heavy material, while Kaila pointed out the significance of taking time to decompress after intense scenes.
Meanwhile, Jake said that his approach was deeply personal, as he fully immersed himself in his character’s inner world.
The story, which “started with a lie,” continues to explore deception and its consequences which will really make the viewers more excited and curious.
It is set to stream on Netflix on Friday, October 17, and will also air on free TV starting October 20.
