For years, fans have closely followed Taylor Swift’s own love story as the global superstar turned many of her real-life romances into inspirations to some of the biggest songs of her career. From heartbreak anthems to songs about finding the one, Taylor has built a legacy where her personal relationships have become an unforgettable part of her music and storytelling.

As everyone's favorite lover girl celebrates her wedding to football star Travis Kelce, here's a look back at who she was romantically linked with before she found the one.

Joe Jonas (July to October 2008)

Taylor’s romance with Joe lasted only four months, but it became one of the most memorable early chapters in her dating history after their now-infamous breakup.

During a 2008 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show while promoting "Fearless," Taylor hinted that Joe ended their relationship through a 27-second phone call and that the song "Forever & Always" was inspired by their breakup.

“We haven't talked since actually... but you know what someday I'm going to find somebody really really great who's right for me,” Taylor said at the time.

“It's like when I find that person that is right for me and he'll be wonderful. And when I look at that person, I'm not even going to be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18... I looked at the call log it was like 27 seconds. That's got to be a record.”

More than a decade later in 2019, Taylor admitted publicly that calling Joe out during that interview may have been too harsh. Joe later acknowledged the moment, saying they were young back then and that they have since become friends.

Lucas Till (March to April 2009)

Taylor briefly dated actor Lucas Till, who was also her leading man in the music video of her hit song "You Belong With Me."

Unlike some of Taylor’s more dramatic romances, this relationship ended quietly and without controversy. Lucas later explained in an MTV interview that while they liked each other, romance simply did not work between them.

“We dated for a little bit. But there was no friction because we were too nice. We just really both liked each other,” he said. “[But] most relationships work out ’cause you get along and then you don’t, and then you make up, and it’s passionate, and with us, I really just liked her as a friend. That’s the only reason that didn’t work out.”

Taylor Lautner (August to December 2009)

Taylor later found romance with the Twilight actor after meeting while filming Valentine’s Day, where they portrayed a teenage couple.

Their relationship quickly gained attention, especially after Lautner presented Taylor with Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV VMAs for "You Belong With Me," where the two shared a warm embrace onstage.

Fans affectionately called the pairing “Taylor Squared” because of their matching first names.

Many believe Taylor’s song "Back to December" from her Speak Now album was written about Lautner, interpreting it as an apology after their split.

Years later, the two remained friendly and openly supportive of one another. Lautner is now married to Tay Lautner, and the couple is expecting a baby girl this year.

John Mayer (late 2009 to early 2010)

Following their collaboration on "Half of My Heart," Taylor became romantically linked to musician John Mayer. Their exact relationship timeline remains unclear, though their 13-year age gap became a major talking point in their relationship as Taylor was 19 while John was 32 at the time.

The pair was later seen dining together in Nashville in early 2010, and by June, John honored Taylor at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony.

Months later, Taylor released "Dear John," which fans widely believe referenced their breakup. The lyrics famously included: “Don't you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark, twisted games when I loved you so?”

In 2012, John criticized Taylor for releasing the song, though Taylor never directly confirmed it was about him.

Ahead of releasing Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in 2023 during The Eras Tour, Taylor addressed fans directly.

“I’m 33 years old, I don't care about anything that happened to me when I was 19 except the songs I wrote,” she said. “So what I'm trying to tell you is that I'm not putting this album out so that you could go and should feel the need to defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written the song about 14 billion years ago.”

Jake Gyllenhaal (October 2010 to January 2011)

Taylor’s relationship with the Donnie Darko actor became one of the most analyzed romances in Taylor's dating history. The pair were first publicly linked in late 2010 after Us Weekly revealed they were dating. They were later spotted spending Thanksgiving together, traveling to Nashville, and spending time in Los Angeles.

By January 2011, PEOPLE reported their breakup and said that they had spent their birthdays in December, as well as the holidays, apart.

Though neither publicly discussed the relationship, Swifties have long believed the Red track "All Too Well" was heavily inspired by Jake.

When Taylor released the extended 10-minute version of "All Too Well" in 2021 alongside a short film starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien, fans once again dissected every lyric and visual detail. Many pointed out Dylan’s resemblance to Jake, including the beard and bonnet look that mirrored Jake’s appearance in their old Us Weekly cover story.

The famous birthday scene in the short film also appeared to reference Taylor’s 21st birthday celebration, which Jake did not attend.

Jake later responded in a 2022 interview with Esquire, addressing the fan theories surrounding Taylor's songs.

“It has nothing to do with me,” he said. “It's about her relationship with her fans. It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don't begrudge anyone that.”

Connor Kennedy (July to October 2012)

Taylor next briefly dated the grandson of former United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. The relationship surfaced after Us Weekly published photos of the pair together in Massachusetts.

Taylor’s fascination with the Kennedy family was already well documented, having previously revealed in a 2011 Rolling Stone interview that she had just finished reading a 900-page book about the family titled The Kennedy Women

Fans have speculated that "Begin Again" was inspired by the early days of their romance following her breakup with Jake.

Harry Styles (late 2012 to January 2013)

Taylor then entered one of pop culture’s most iconic celebrity pairings with Harry Styles while he was still a member of One Direction. Their Central Park date in New York quickly went viral.

Fans believe "I Knew You Were Trouble" may have first referenced Harry, while many tracks from 1989 including "Style," "Out of the Woods," "Clean," and "Wonderland" have also been connected to him.

Harry reflected on the theories about being her songs' inspiration during a 2020 interview with Howard Stern.

“I think about what it means to me to write a song about somebody else and for somebody else to do that, it's, like, flattering... she's a great songwriter. So at least they're good songs.”

The former couple reunited publicly at the 65th Grammy Awards where Taylor won best music video for “All Too Well: The Short Film” and Harry won album of the year for Harry’s House.

Calvin Harris (February 2015 to mid 2016)

Taylor’s romance with the Scottish DJ became one of her longest relationships. The two officially went public at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards and even kissed in front of cameras.

After the relationship ended, fans noticed Taylor seemingly referencing Calvin in the "Look What You Made Me Do" music video through a gravestone labeled “Nils Sjoberg," the pseudonym she used while co-writing Calvin and Rihanna’s hit "This Is What You Came For."

Calvin later admitted that the public fallout became harder than the relationship itself.

“It's very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly... The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself.”

Fans believe the song "I Forgot That You Existed" was inspired by him.

Tom Hiddleston (June to September 2016)

Taylor briefly dated the British actor known for Loki, after the two met at the Met Gala.

Soon after, they were photographed kissing in Rome in June 2016. Tom later became a viral sensation after wearing the now-famous “I ♥ T.S.” tank top during Taylor’s Fourth of July celebration.

By September, Entertainment Tonight confirmed the pair had ended their relationship.

Fans later linked Taylor’s song "Getaway Car" to the whirlwind romance.

Joe Alwyn (early 2017 to April 2023)

Taylor’s longest and most private relationship was perhaps with British actor Joe Alwyn. Although it's unclear when the former couple started dating, reports first surfaced in May 2017. Taylor later hinted in a now-deleted 2022 Instagram post that they had been together for six years.

Throughout the relationship, the pair kept things incredibly private, with few appearances on red carpets and major public displays of affection. Nonetheless, the former pair were candid in mentioning one another in interviews. Fans also affectionately called Joe as her "London boy".

Fans later connected songs like "London Boy," "Cornelia Street," "Paper Rings," and "Lover" to Joe, which are all from her Lover album.

Joe, under the pseudonym William Bowery, also co-wrote several of Taylor’s songs including "Exile," "Betty," "Champagne Problems," "Evermore," and "Coney Island."

Their breakup became public in April 2023 while Taylor was on The Eras Tour. Entertainment Weekly reported that the breakup was "not dramatic" and their relationship "had just run its course."

Months later, Taylor's publicist Tree Paine shut down rumors claiming the two had secretly married.

"Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi. There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these."

Matty Healy (May to June 2023)

Weeks after her split from Joe, Taylor sparked headlines after being linked to The 1975 frontman. US media reports claimed the pair had reconnected nearly ten years after a brief earlier fling.

The former pair were photographed numerous times, and Matty was later seen attending one of Taylor’s Eras Tour concerts.

By June, the romance had ended, according to Entertainment Tonight.

“Taylor and Matty broke up… They are both extremely busy and realized they're not really compatible with each other. Taylor's friends want what's best for her and aren't shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship,” a source told Entertainment Tonight.

Travis Kelce (July 2023 to present)

Taylor’s latest chapter began in July 2023 after NFL star Travis Kelce attended her Eras Tour concert in Kansas City. He famously attempted, unsuccessfully, to give Taylor his number through a friendship bracelet.

Through mutual friends, the two eventually connected privately.

“So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other,” Taylor later told Time in December 2023.

Their romance exploded online after Taylor made a surprise appearance at one of Travis’s NFL games in September 2023.

Throughout their relationship, both have publicly supported each other’s careers. Taylor has regularly attended his games, greeting him with hugs and kisses after victories.

In June 2024, Travis shocked fans when he joined Taylor onstage during a performance of "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" at Wembley Stadium.

By August 2025, the internet erupted after the couple announced their engagement on Instagram, sharing photos of Travis proposing in a garden at his Kansas estate.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the caption read.

Now in July 2026, excitement has reached new heights as reports suggest the couple’s wedding is approaching. Though details remain private, reports indicate the wedding will take place in New York.

According to Variety, invited guests reportedly include major entertainment figures and celebrity friends such as Steven Spielberg, Jack Antonoff, Selena Gomez, and Sabrina Carpenter.

Ahead of the rumored wedding, Taylor and Travis also reportedly donated $26 million (approximately ₱1.5 billion) to various charities and organizations.

From heartbreaks that inspired songs loved by millions to relationships that became part of pop culture history, Taylor’s dating life has long been intertwined with the music that defined every era of her career.

And now, after years of singing about love, heartbreak, healing, and searching for the one, it seems Taylor has finally reached a real-life happy ending with the person she can finally call her forever lover, a chapter Swifties have long hoped for.
