MANILA — Actress Angel Castro revealed that she nearly lost her eyesight after suffering an eye complication from a lash extension.

Castro, the daughter of Diego Castro III and Raven Villanueva and granddaughter of Angelo Castro Jr., shared that she sustained a corneal abrasion.

“Hindi maganda pagkakabit. For awareness, plastic yung ginamit sakin na lashes, dinikit using bonding glue. Nakatulog ako. Pagkagising ko sobrang hapdi ng mata ko. Burning pain. It is really painful. I went to an eye doctor nagpasundo ako sa friend ko. Iyak ako nang iyak. Sa X-ray, may scratch po sa pupil. Nilagyan nila steroids,” she recalled during the press conference for “Bagong Tukso 2.0” in Quezon City.

While her condition has since improved, Castro said she still experiences recurring pain and some vision problems.

“Some days okay mata ko. Some days babalik [pain]. Especially in the morning when I wake up — feeling ko masusunog mata ko. Muntik ako mabulag. May days gigising ako sobrang hapdi ng mata ko,” she explained.

“Every time may light sa mata ko it is very painful. So sometimes, I do not know where to look,” she added.

According to Castro, doctors recommended surgery, but she has yet to undergo the procedure because of other health concerns.

“May remedy, may down time. I need to avoid light for three months if i get the operation. I took tests but I can't get it pag mataas uric acid ko. Sabi lang if may issues with my kidney I can't proceed pa. Super busy ko din. Kung maagapan kidney ko pwede na ako pa-opera. Pababain uric acid ko muna,” she reasoned.

The actress formerly used the screen name Claire Castro early in her career, but she opted to change it to Angel Castro to avoid confusion with Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro.

“Pag ginoogle niyo kasi Claire Castro, iba na lalabas,” she said.

Castro is set to make her VMX debut soon, and she said audiences can expect daring and risqué performances from her. Among her upcoming projects is “Bagong Tukso 2.0.”
