Despite the criticisms he receives and the exhaustion that comes with years of hard work, Vice Ganda shared that his family's unwavering love and support continue to keep him motivated.
In his latest vlog, the It's Showtime host gave viewers a glimpse of his daily routine at work then later sat down inside his home to reflect on his journey as a breadwinner. He also shared why seeing his family being proud of his achievements makes every sacrifice worthwhile.
In his backdrop were the trophies and awards he has received over the years which became symbols of the hard work and perseverance that shaped his success.
"Pinagyayabang ko talaga 'yan kasi 'yan ang produkto ng aking pagsusumikap, pagta-trabaho nang lubos, at hindi pagsuko sa hamon ng aking karera. Sa dami ng pinagdaanan ko dito sa showbiz industry, ito ang nagpapaalala sa akin na it's all worth it," he said, turning into his awards.
"'Yan ang nagpapa-smile sa akin at nagpapalakas ng loob ko lagi sa kalagitnaan ng napakaraming bashing na inaabot ko," he added.
Vice Ganda recalled that his love for displaying his awards came from his mother, Rosario, who used to proudly showcase his certificates, medals, and achievements from school and various competitions. Inspired by her, he eventually filled his own home with the recognitions he has earned through the years.
"Ipinagmamalaki talaga ng nanay at tatay ko. Hanggang ngayon ito ang pinaka-masarap sa pakiramdam ko, 'yung buong family ko ipinagmamalaki talaga nila ako. Lahat ng mga achievements ko, lahat ng mga ganap ko sa buhay, ipinagmamalaki nila. As a breadwinner of the family, masarap sa puso na maramdaman mo na 'yung mga taong dahilan ng pagsusumikap mo, ng pagta-trabaho mo nang husto, pagkakaroon mo ng pangarap ay talagang sumusuporta sa'yo,” he said.
The comedian-host acknowledged that not every breadwinner shares the same experience, saying he considers himself fortunate to have a family that has always been appreciative rather than demanding.
"I'm so blessed because my family has always been a very supportive [and] grateful family...kaya hindi ko alintana, hindi ko nararamdaman 'yung pagod. Di ba pag breadwinner ka talagang lahat ginagawa mo kaya may mga times na mararamdaman mo 'yung pagod? Nakakaramdam din naman ako ng pagod kasi tao naman ako...pero ang laking bagay ng pagmamahal at suporta na nakukuha ko sa pamilya ko para mas maramdaman ko 'yun kesa sa pagod. Mas malala 'yung pangarap ko kaysa sa pagod."
He continued: "Napapagod man ako, hindi ko masyadong inaalintana kasi [My] eyes [are] on the prize. Nasa isip ko, kailangan umayos 'yung buhay ng pamilya ko, kailangan habang tumatanda 'yung nanay ko [ay] sumaya siya, 'yung mga kapatid ko ganon din, kailangan habang umaasenso ako, umaasenso rin 'yung mga kapatid ko."
For Vice, every trophy also serves as a reminder of the challenges he has overcome and the dreams he refused to give up.
"Makikita mo kung ano na bang nangyari sa akin magmula noong nagsimula akong magsumikap. Parang masasabi mo 'Ay, may napala naman pala. May kinahinatnan naman pala'."
Years of dedication have earned Vice Ganda numerous recognitions in the entertainment industry. Aside from consistently headlining box-office hits, he has also been honored by prestigious award-giving bodies for his performances.
Last December, he received his first-ever Best Actor award at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) for his acclaimed portrayal of Twinkle in Call Me Mother, which tells the story of a gay man who single-handedly raises a young boy named Angelo.
Earlier this month, the Unkabogable Star also served as the guest speaker during the graduation ceremonies of the University of the Philippines College of Media and Communication (UP CMC), where he encouraged graduates to use their education for good and to always stand on the side of truth.
His keynote address was later praised by veteran journalist Kara David, who also serves as chair of the journalism department of UP CMC.
He likewise recently received the Box Office Hero award at the 9th Entertainment Editors' Choice Awards (The EDDYS) for his blockbuster film And The Breadwinner Is...
Among his most treasured memories of receiving awards was seeing his mother accept one on his behalf. During the 2018 FAMAS Awards, she proudly received the Dolphy King of Comedy Award for him.
At the start of the vlog, Vice Ganda showed his daily life in It's Showtime, from arriving at the studio early for rehearsals and production meetings, hosting, transforming into Memerimar, to staying late because of his many commitments, all showing the amount of work that goes into the live noontime program.
Toward the end of his vlog, Vice took the opportunity to subtly address some of the show's criticisms, asking viewers to be more understanding of everyone working on it.
"We are trying our best kasi nga mahal naman namin kayo kaya gusto namin maganda 'yung pinapanood niyo. Pero siyempre hindi naman araw-araw pasko. Maraming pagkakataon nahihirapan din kami. Unawain natin ang isa't isa," he said lightheartedly.
Meanwhile, Vice Ganda is set to join forces with Vic Sotto in the upcoming film The Greatest Showdown, bringing together two of the country's biggest comedy stars and noontime television icons under the direction of Jun Robles Lana.
