“Oh my god. Liar, birthday ko yun!”
Veteran broadcaster Karen Davila was shocked to learn that she and singer Lyca Gairanod share the same birthday. In one of the outtakes of her vlogs, the news anchor just casually asked the singer when her birthday was, not knowing a viral moment would be created.
Karen and Lyca were both born on November 21.
“Birthday mo November 21? Di ko alam yun, wait di ko alam yun na magkabirthday kami!” Karen expressed.
This interaction between the two created a social media frenzy as netizens found it amusing as the two personalities had different reactions upon finding out that they had the same birthdays.
The video clip has been going around on the internet and has been used by thousands of Filipinos as a meme. Other netizens have edited and added their own twist to the viral reaction of the two.
After the funny incident, Lyca admitted how surprised she was after seeing the reaction of Karen, which was evident in the video.
“Nung sumigaw siya ng 'Oh my God!' napakalakas po talaga. Pati 'yung mama ko na nasa pinakadulo — kasi social distancing po kami eh — nagtinginan po kaming lahat sa kanya. Nakakagulat po siyang sumigaw agad. Akala ko po kung ano ang isisigaw niya. Nagulat po kaming lahat sa kanya,” she previously shared.
“Sobrang totoo ang gulat ko diyan. Kaya sinasabi nila sa akin ang pangit ko magulat diyan. Ang pangit, ang pangit. Sobrang pangit po ng gulat ko walang maganda,” she added.
In 2021, Karen and Lyca celebrated their birthdays together in a meaningful way: by giving away phones, bicycles, and food to some of the singer’s neighbors in Cavite.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa inyong lahat for welcoming our birthday the way you have. Medyo nakaka-pressure kasi hindi naman namin inisip na magiging viral ang ‘Oh, my God.’ I usually celebrate my birthday quietly. Pero it’s special kasi may ka-birthday ako,” Karen previously shared.
Since then, netizens have made sure to remember that every November 21 is the birthday of both Karen and Lyca.
