MANILA — Screen veteran Charo Santos on Monday urged respect and dignity for women, saying their voices and experiences should be heard and valued as she marked International Women’s Day.
"There are moments when the noise around us grows louder — opinions, headlines, emotions. In times like these, I find myself returning to a simple truth: every woman deserves to be heard with dignity, spoken to with RESPECT, and treated with kindness. This is why a message as simple as 'Bawal Bastos, Please.' still matters. Respect should never be optional. It should be the standard," the former ABS-CBN president and CEO wrote in an Instagram post.
Santos said that beyond the many roles of women what is more important is to remember that women's voices matter.
"Women carry many roles in this world — daughter, mother, leader, worker, dreamer. But beyond these titles is something even more important: our shared humanity. Our voices, our stories, and our experiences matter. This Women’s Month reminds us that strength does not always shout. Sometimes it stands quietly, but firmly, for what is right. It uplifts rather than tears down. It listens as much as it speaks," Santos said.
The "Batang Quiapo" actress also encouraged everyone to create safe spaces for women.
"May we continue to create spaces where women feel safe, valued, and empowered to stand in their truth. To all women: your voice matters. Your dignity matters.
Santos, an icon of the Philippine entertainment industry, is recognized for her contribution as a leader of ABS-CBN. She's also known for being vocal in various social issues.
