Music superstars TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan just wrapped up their four-night concert series at the Araneta Coliseum on Monday night.
The couple’s concert, entitled "In Between," showcased their individuality as artists and how their music and lives intertwined, eventually narrowing the gaps "in between."
Under the helm of concert director John Prats, the show lasted for almost three hours. Prats incorporated a number of "near-audience" experiences, such as extended wings on both sides of the stage, a ramp on center stage, lifted platforms, a suspended bridge, and PixMob interactive bracelets that switched colors depending on the mood of the songs.
Aside from their artistry, the concert revealed their vulnerabilities and offered a glimpse into their personal lives. During the show, Tandingan shared that she is not yet ready to become a mother.
Speaking to the media after the event, Monterde said, “It comes when it comes. Okay lang. Makakapaghintay. Kung bibigyan kami, thank God. Kung kami lang ding dalawa pang-habang buhay, okay lang din. Ayos lang 'yun. Kung ano ang will ni Lord sa aming dalawa, okay lang 'yun.”
He also stressed, “A couple is a family.”
Tandingan expressed that she was grateful to have such an understanding husband. “Ang pressure ng pagiging parent, ang bigat-bigat sa nanay eh. Kumbaga, you’re not just carrying a child, you’re changing yourself. Kahit napanganak mo na 'yung bata, you are completely changed as a person — physically, spiritually, and mentally.”
She continued, “Sabi ko kanina, ayokong maging nanay kasi napre-pressure na ako. Sinasabi kasi ng mga tao, ‘kailangan mong may [mag] alaga sa iyo pagtanda mo.’ Gusto kong maging nanay, kasi gusto kong maging nanay. 'Yung kaya ko nang alagaan 'yung anak ko — ayokong iluwal 'yung batang ito para lang pahirapan siya sa mundo dahil hindi ako prepared.”
Ten years into their relationship, Tandingan has learned to open her doors, bring her guard down, and allow Monterde to "take the wheel." Right now, the couple is saving for their dream house.
Monterde opened up about finally being able to contribute significantly to their savings. “Dati sabi ko, ‘Lord, hanggang pambayad na lang ba ng bills ng Meralco at tubig ang kaya ko.’ Ngayon, after my song ‘Palagi,’ nakakaipon na.”
The song "Palagi" has taken off exponentially, with many couples choosing the track for their proposals. Throughout the four-night series, Monterde and Tandingan witnessed proposals left and right.
“Ang daming nag-propose, nung main song lang. Kailangan nating ibigay 'yun sa kanila,” he said.
She added, “Sobrang nakakataba ng puso. They’re using our song sa pag-take ng next step ng buhay nila.”
