After an almost six year hiatus from showbiz, actor and athlete Derek Ramsay has finally returned to acting this year after declining numerous offers since getting married in 2021 and growing his family. The Fil-British actor shared how life has been for him these past few years outside of the camera as shared in this exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN.
“I was on cloud nine. I retired. I started a family. I was super, super happy. I was so content with my life. It was like, I entered that chapter and I was so happy with that chapter of my life. But you know life, life can take these turns and things can happen and plans don’t always work out so the important thing is you get back up on your feet and continue to work hard and find what’s meant for you and what will make you happy and that’s the road I’m on now. I’m at peace. I’m really at peace,” he told PUSH ABS-CBN during the Pines Ultimate Invitational tournament held at the Benguet Sports Complex last weekend.
Having had to deal with intrigues surrounding his marital life last year, Derek said that he has chosen to focus on the many blessings in his life rather than dwell on negativity.
“There was a time where I was lost. I was really looking into myself and trying to keep myself strong. I have a daughter, I have a son, I have a stepson, and I was telling myself that I have to really gather myself, be strong, and get back up on your feet and continue to live life. Because everyday you put your feet on the ground is a blessing.
"Again, things didn’t work out as planned but there’s more to life and I am very blessed to have both parents still alive. So they were my strength, I focused on them, and spent as much time with them. And of course my little girl. To keep my mind off things, I went back to the craft that I love and I turned my back on for I think six years. And here I am starting a teleserye which I’m very nervous about,” he shared.
With what is shaping up to be another busy year for him on and off camera, Derek revealed why nothing immediately comes to mind when asked what he is most looking forward to n 2026.
“That’s an interesting question because I don’t think I’ve looked that far, because of the recent things that have happened in my life. So I’m taking it really one day at a time. Even with what happened, I am a very blessed man. I have a beautiful daughter, I have a wonderful stepson, my son is studying now in the UK, my parents are both still alive. They’re still here. I’m living my life right now one day at a time, I’m enjoying each moment with them, each and every moment with my daughter. She’s growing up so fast!” he added.
After bringing his daughter Lily to the UK to spend the holidays with the rest of his family, Derek shared how it feels to have his first daughter.
“It’s such a wonderful feeling and nerve-wracking. She’s growing up so fast and I just want that to slow down, you know? But she’s the angel of my life. When we were in the UK, she was our joy. She just puts a smile on our face. She’s all love,” he added.
