Actress Matet de Leon gave light to the issue that her late mother, Nora Aunor, suffered financially despite the decades-long success of her career in the entertainment industry.
During her guest appearance on the vlog of financial coach Chinkee Tan, Matet revealed why her mom had no savings, emphasizing that she was very “generous.”
“Alam mo, [i-klaro] na natin sa mga tao. Kinakana nila ‘yung mommy ko na ang hirap, purita nanay ko. Alam niyo kung bakit? Sabihin ko ha, dito na. Ang mommy ko kasi paid before or pay after pagdating sa taping. Ang mommy ko, papilahin ‘yung mga tao. ‘Yung sweldo niya sa bag, ibibigay niya ‘yan sa staff. Hindi ito P300 boss ha, dalawang libo, isang libo, pinapapila niya ang mga tao, cameraman, lahat,” she explained.
“’Yung mga bata, makita niya sa set na may mga batang nanonood, ‘papilahin niyo yan,’ bibigyan niya yan,” she added.

The 41-year-old emphasized that her mom loved prioritizing other’s welfare over her own.
“Paanong hindi mauubusan ang nanay ko, eh itinutulong niya sa tao? Ang thinking ng mommy ko, okay lang ako wala pero sila meron,” she said.
“Sana bago mapintasan ang nanay ko na mahirap, na walang nangyari sa kanya, hindi man lang nakapag-invest, (sana alam niyo na para sa kanya) tao muna, kaibigan niya muna, bago siya,” she added.
Matet said that they didn’t intervene on Nora’s decision-making unless she was the one seeking advice from them.
“She was very generous to the point na wala nang natitira. And kami namang mga anak, hindi kami para pagsabihan siya na ‘Ma baka naman pwedeng ganito yung gawin natin,’” she said.
“Nag-a-advice kami sa kanya ‘pag humihingi siya ng advice. Pero ‘pag hindi nanghihingi ng advice ang nanay ko, hindi ko papakialaman ‘yun baka magalit sa akin,” she added.

In the same interview, Matet, who does live selling as a side hustle, spoke about her emotional livestream last July. The actress explained that it was triggered by an insensitive remark involving her late mother.
"Tinamaan ako dun. ’Pag tungkol sa nanay ko, iba na 'yun. Tirahin niyo ako kung anong gusto niyong sabihin, okay lang 'yun. Pero wag 'yung tungkol sa nanay ko," she said.
The Superstar of Philippine Cinema died last April at the age of 71.
It can be recalled that turned emotional when she delivered eulogy at the wake of her mom, revealing that she was “full of regrets.”
