Pop star Katy Perry experienced a tense moment during her Lifetimes concert in San Francisco on July 18, when a butterfly-shaped prop she was riding malfunctioned mid-performance.
In a video posted by a fan on TikTok, the singer was performing her hit song "Roar" while suspended on the butterfly prop when it suddenly jolted, causing her to nearly lose her balance.
Despite the unexpected mishap, Katy managed to regain her composure once the prop stabilized and continued performing "Roar" without missing a beat.

Katy is currently on the U.S. leg of her Lifetimes Tour, in support of her seventh studio album 143, released in 2024. The tour kicked off in Mexico City in April and is scheduled to conclude in Abu Dhabi in December. This marks her first concert tour in seven years, following Witness: The Tour, which ran from 2017 to 2018.
In an interview with Variety back in January, Katy shared her vision for the Lifetimes Tour.
"It’s a larger than life experience. For over 17 years, [my fans and I] have grown up together. They have their own lives, they have kids, they have careers, they’re fulfilling their dreams. So to see them still coming out and responding to this… I didn’t expect it and I can’t wait to give back to them," she remarked.
The pop star also expressed her desire to create a sense of connection throughout the tour. "Everything I’m doing has been specific because I want the fans to feel special… when your favorite singers come to your town, it’s special that they’ve chosen this town to come to. I’m utilizing all of the things that I’ve learned along the way to give people a place to connect and find community," she said.
Aside from her songs from 143, the Lifetimes concert features hit songs from the previous eras of her career. "I also feel the responsibility to give my audience the songs that they know. I’m there to let them tap into the nostalgia… I really just want to reconnect. I want to lock eyes with my fans. It’s been a minute, and I feel very full up on love. I’m overflowing with it," she stated.
