MANILA -- Actress Aiko Melendez on Tuesday expressed her happiness and gratitude as she is poised to win her second term as councilor in Quezon City's District 5.
As of 10:01 a.m., partial and unofficial results showed Melendez and fellow celebrity-politician Alfred Vargas obtaining over 113,000 and 105,000 votes, respectively.
"Thank you so much to everyone who helped and still believes in me. On to my second term," she said in an Instagram post. "Thank you, District 5 Of Quezon City!"
In a previous interview with ABS-CBN News, the 45-year-old actress said she has no qualms about returning to public service after 11 years.
Melendez starred in hit films such as "May Minamahal," "Sa'yo Lamang," and "Kahit Kailan."
Her last movie outing was "Rainbow's Sunset," where she won best supporting actress at the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival.
On television, Melendez is best known for her role in ABS-CBN's revenge drama "Wildflower."
