As the whole world tuned in to watch the 74th Miss Universe, Miss Mexico shone the brightest. As one of the most talked about contestants of the year, her win in Bangkok, Thailand on November 21 was more than a coronation, it became a global moment of resilience, unity, and power.
From Tabasco to the Universe
Fatima Bosch Fernandez was born on May 19, 2000, in Santiago de Teapa, Tabasco, Mexico, where she spent most of her early life. Her victory as Miss Universe Mexico 2025 brought immense pride to her hometown, as she became the first-ever queen from Tabasco when she won in September.
Fatima has spoken in previous interviews about growing up with dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), noting that these challenges led to bullying during her childhood, the very experiences that later shaped her sense of resilience.
Designing Her Own Path
Fatima studied Fashion and Apparel Design at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. Her pursuit of creative education extended internationally, taking her to the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) in Milan, Italy, as well as the Lyndon Institute in Vermont, USA. Her training in fashion, arts, and design became a defining part of her identity, influencing her public presence and presentation as a national and eventually international queen.
A Crown Years in the Making
Before entering the national pageant, Fatima first stepped into the public eye after winning Flor Tabasco beauty pageant in 2018. Years later, on September 13, 2025, she made history when she became the first woman from Tabasco to win the Miss Universe México title. Her coronation drew mixed reactions after some candidates and audience members appeared reluctant to acknowledge her win, but she kept her composure, thanking supporters and expressing confidence in her performance. She went on to represent Mexico at Miss Universe 2025, where she ultimately secured the first-ever Filipino-crafted Miss Universe crown made with the Philippines' national gem, the South Sea pearl.

One of Fatima’s core advocacies is anchored in designing one’s future. Through this initiative, she combines her background in fashion design with her passion for social change by designing hoodies with messages of empathy to raise funds and create social impact, with proceeds going directly to vulnerable stakeholders of the community.
Through the Storm Before the Crown
Fatima became the focus of international headlines days before the pageant’s coronation due to a heated confrontation during the Miss Universe orientation in Thailand on November 4. Thai vice president for Asiana Nawat Itsaragrisil called out Fatima for allegedly refusing to partake in a photo shoot meant for contestants to share on social media. Miss Mexico then explained that the directive came from her national director, but the exchange quickly intensified when Itsaragrisil allegedly labeled her a “dumbhead” and insisted she should listen before responding. Security was later called in, and the incident prompted several contestants, including Miss Universe 2024 Viktoria Kjær Theilvig, to stage a walkout in support of Bosch.

After leaving the event, Fatima told the press that the Vice President for Asiana was "not respectful" as he called her with foul name.
Following the confrontation, Fatima addressed the issue by calling for respect among women in the competition. She emphasized that she was in Thailand as Mexico’s representative and deserved to be treated with dignity. Her calm remarks gained traction online and strengthened public support for her heading into the finals.
Her Words After the Storm
In the midst of the controversy, Fatima remained composed throughout the 74th Miss Universe competition, winning over the audience with her resilience.
During the Top 5 Miss Universe 2025 Question and Answer Portion, she was asked by the judge and Miss Universe Thailand 1988, Dr. Nok Chalida: “In your perspective, what are the challenges of being a woman in the year 2025 and how would you use the title of Miss Universe to create a safe space for women around the world?
In which she answered: “As a woman and as Miss Universe, I will put my voice and the power in the service of others because nowadays we are here to speak up, to make change and have everything in view because we are women and the brave ones that stand up are the ones that will make history.”
For the final Miss Universe 2025 Question and Answer Portion, the contestants were asked one question with only 30 seconds to answer: “If you win the title of Miss Universe, how would you use this platform to empower young girls?”
To which she responded: “As Miss Universe, I will say to them: believe in the power of your authenticity. Believe in yourself, your dreams matter, your heart matters. And never let anyone make you doubt about your worth, because you are worth everything. And you are powerful, and your voice needs to be heard. Thank you.”
Her delivery and grounded message became one of the defining moments of the event, getting her place as the newest Miss Universe.
