Actress and model Liza Soberano revealed her latest journey as a first-time animal rescuer during a recent press event where she was launched as a brand ambassador of a new brand of cat food and treats. The US-based artist, who is one of the voice cast members in DreamWorks' upcoming animated movie Forgotten Island, talked about saving five cats off the streets of Los Angeles, California, where she is based. She shared her experience during the Prof. Bengal cat food and treat launch held last November 6 in Pasay City.
Prior to her becoming a new cat mom, Liza had already been a fur mom to her dog Yuna, whom she brought to the US from the Philippines. “As you all know, I’ve been a fur mommy to Yuna for the longest time. But actually, recently, I rescued five cats in LA. So I rescued a mama and her four kittens and the journey has been very fun but also very chaotic at times. it’s definitely a big adjustment going from being a fur mom to just a dog to now having a dog and five cats. I’m really happy to be part of this journey as well now that I am also a cat mama. I’m very blessed and honored to be here with everyone today,” she said.
It was in one of her Instagram posts last September that Liza first gave a glimpse of the latest additions to her home abroad. The 27-year-old actress also shared the most challenging and rewarding thing about her journey as a new cat mom. “The most challenging thing is earning their trust. Especially because they were street cats, you know they probably went through a lot of hardships living on the streets. So when you rescue a cat, they’re not very trusting in the beginning and you have to really be patient and take the time to earn that trust. But once you do, they’re so loving and they’re so sweet and it’s just so nice. The rewarding part was seeing them get healthy. Because when I rescued them they were so skinny, they had a lot of different illnesses so I really had to take them to the vet and help nourish them so that they could be healthy and have a good chance at surviving,” she shared.
Being the celebrity brand ambassador of Dr. Bengal also came in handy for Liza when she rescued the cats off the streets. “I was lucky enough to get sent a lot of cat food products when I was in LA so when I had them, I had the food already on hand. So when I rescued them, that was the first thing that I immediately gave to them and they loved it so much. So not only was it delicious, it was genuinely good for them too. Because all the cat treats they have had different types of functions. And so Easy Peasy paste treat, I kept on giving that to the mama cat because she had really bad UTI and it actually really helped with her recovery,” she added.
Liza also admitted during the event how close she has gotten to her cats, even though she decided to find new fur parents for the mother cat. “I do have a favorite. I love them all but I do have a favorite. It’s bad to say but the mom was my favorite, actually. But unfortunately, I didn’t adopt her. I actually found her a parent that adopted her just two weeks ago. I loved her the most because she was the sweetest. She was the most affectionate. And for being a street cat, she was so gentle and so warm towards me. But now, obviously, I’m obsessed with the four kittens because I’m with them,” she said.
