Last October 4, actress Kaye Abad shared her eldest son Pio Joaquin’s latest achievement in sports — winning his first fight in boxing at just eight years old. The competition was organized by a local boxing gym in Cebu City. The former Tabing Ilog star could not be any prouder of her eldest son with husband Paul Jake Castillo.

In one of her most recent posts, Kaye shared just how passionate and selfless her first born was before his scheduled fight.  “My lucid tiger, I’m so proud of you, my love. You were coughing so badly just hours before the fight that we even thought of canceling it but you still chose to step into the ring. What made me even prouder was seeing you look for BJ after the fight, just so you could share your winnings with him. 🥊 Congratulations, Joaquin! 💪”

In another post, Kaye also gave credit to her son’s coach, training team, and even opponent, for his memorable win in the ring at such a young age. “For the people behind Joaquin’s win 🥊❤️ To Coach Jinggoy, who first saw his potential and patiently guided him every step of the way. thank you for pushing him to do better, for instilling discipline.  Joaquin wouldn’t be the boxer he is today without your dedication and heart.  To the Omega team, for making training not only effective but also fun. you gave him a second family inside the gym. To Uncle Pao, for believing in him and always cheering him on. To BJ, for being more than just a sparring partner. for being a friend to joaquin. 🥊 And most of all, to his dad, who stood by him through this whole month of training and the fight itself. thank you for being his streghth. 👊🏼 I am grateful for each one of you. KUMBATI!!!🥊”

Earlier this year, the celebrity couple threw a boxing-themed birthday party for their son. It also served as a belated birthday celebration for Paul Jake last February, which they documented in their vlog.

Kaye first shared posts of Joaquin doing boxing training in the middle of 2024. Her husband, former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Paul Jake is also known to be active in sports, having just competed in the IronMan70.3 competition held in Cebu last August.

In a previous interview with Karen Davila in 2024, Kaye shared why she had no qualms with making the decision to lay low from showbiz and living in Cebu after marriage so she could focus on raising her two sons, Joaquin and Inigo, with husband Paul Jake.

"I love it here in Cebu, very laid-back, simple life, everything is near. I would drive my kids to school. Mag-go-grocery ako mag-isa. Yung buhay na pinangarap ko, natupad lahat dito. Never akong nagdalawang isip. It was really my dream to have my own family. As early as 18, sabi ko when I have my own family, I think I'll stop acting because I want to concentrate with my family. At least ngayon hindi naman ako nag-stop, I'm still here, nag lie low lang,” she shared.
