MANILA — Comedian Gil Morales, known as Ate Gay, credits the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor for his three-decade-long career—not only for allowing him to impersonate her, but for standing by him and cheering him on through every milestone.

“Lahat ng malaking nangyare sa buhay ko, like MOA concert ko, guest ko siya. Kumbaga sinusuportahan niya mga gumagaya sa kanya,” Ate Gay tearfully recalled in an interview held during the wake of Aunor, Saturday.

“Kay Nora Aunor, mula nag work ako, bit ko na siya. Kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa kanya. Naikot ko buong mundo dahil sa kanya. Hindi siya madamot. Hindi niya kami pinagbabawalan,” he added.
The comedian attested that Ate Guy was a true superstar both on and off the stage, and that she imparted countless lessons to him.
“Natutunan ko sa kanya maging mabuti sa tao, mabait sa fans. Natuto ako mag-aliw ng nga manunuod at pag arte,” he explained.

Other artists and filmmakers who condoled with the bereaved family on Saturday were Daisy Romualdez, Celia Rodriguez, Mark Bautista, Joel Lamangan, Adolfo Alix Jr., National Artist Ricky Lee, and Manny de Leon.
